Hidden Gems: Meet Ebbie Simukai of echo beauty and ebbiesimukai

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ebbie Simukai

Hi Ebbie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My entrepreneurial journey began while I was at university, studying events management. Alongside my studies, I developed a passion for beauty and makeup, which soon transformed from a hobby into a business venture. To make extra cash, I started offering makeup services. A turning point came when I did my friend’s makeup for her court wedding and posted the results on social media. The positive feedback was incredible, and soon, people outside my circle started booking me.

In my final year, I decided to go the extra mile and launched my own cosmetics line, Echo Beauty, in 2020. But I never let go of my passion for events. After graduation, I worked in a hotel as part of an events team, gaining valuable experience. Today, I’m proud to run my own event planning company, while still managing my makeup business.

Now, I have the privilege of working alongside my husband, who is both a photographer and a marketing expert. Together, we make a dynamic team, blending our skills to provide unique experiences for our clients.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I believe that every challenge has helped shape me into the businesswoman I am today. One of the biggest struggles was balancing my studies with starting my makeup business. There were times I felt overwhelmed, trying to meet deadlines for my coursework while also handling client bookings and managing a growing online presence. In addition, launching a cosmetics line in 2020 came with its own set of challenges, especially during the pandemic, which affected everything from supply chains to customer demand.

After graduation, another challenge was transitioning from being part of a team in the events industry to running my own event planning business. It took time to build my brand, establish a reputation, and gain trust. There were moments of doubt and financial uncertainty, but with perseverance and the support of my husband, I pushed through. The lessons I’ve learned along the way have been invaluable, and they’ve only made me more determined to succeed.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The Covid-19 crisis taught me some invaluable lessons, both personally and professionally. One of the most important was the need for adaptability. When the pandemic hit, everything changed overnight, events were canceled, in-person makeup bookings disappeared, and launching my cosmetics line in 2020 faced supply chain disruptions. I had to quickly adjust my approach, especially when it came to growing my online presence and finding new ways to reach customers virtually. It taught me to embrace digital solutions and focus on building a stronger online brand.

Another key lesson was resilience. The uncertainty during that period was overwhelming at times, but I learned how to stay focused, keep pushing forward, and pivot when necessary. The pandemic showed me that nothing is guaranteed, but it also revealed the importance of having a strong support system and a clear vision. Through all the challenges, I stayed connected to my mission of empowering women through beauty and creating meaningful experiences through events.

Ultimately, the Covid-19 crisis reinforced the importance of flexibility, perseverance, and remaining true to my brand, even in the toughest times.
