Today we’d like to introduce you to Eddie Hsieh.
Eddie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story began with a simple mission: to bring comfort and wellness to people’s everyday lives. When I first discovered massage chairs, I realized they weren’t just luxury items—they could genuinely improve quality of life. That realization inspired me to turn this passion into a business and share it with my community in Dallas.
At first, I was just sharing what I learned with friends and neighbors. I realized most people didn’t know how to choose the right chair, and that many were overwhelmed by all the technical features. I saw an opportunity—not just to sell massage chairs, but to guide people through the process with honesty, patience, and expertise.
The early days weren’t easy. Competing with big-box retailers and online giants was intimidating. But instead of trying to beat them on price, I leaned into what made me different: personalized service, product knowledge, and a genuine commitment to customer care. I wanted people to feel comfortable walking into my store, sitting in a chair, and asking every question they had—without feeling pressured.
Over time, that approach began to pay off. Customers appreciated not just the chairs but the experience, and word of mouth became my strongest marketing tool. Along the way, I’ve come to believe one simple truth: “In helping others, we help ourselves.” By guiding people toward comfort and wellness, I’ve also discovered my own purpose.
Today, our store has grown into one of the largest local showrooms in DFW, offering a wide range of models from trusted brands. But what I’m most proud of isn’t the size of the showroom—it’s the relationships we’ve built. Looking back, the journey has been about more than massage chairs. It’s been about creating a space where people can invest in their health, find comfort for their families, and trust that they’re making the right choice. My goal moving forward is simple: to keep serving the Dallas community with care, transparency, and a focus on wellness.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Competing with big-box retailers and online sellers was one of the toughest challenges in the beginning. Many people would shop online without ever trying a chair, and it was hard to convince them of the value of an in-person experience. Building trust took time, and in the early days there were moments when I wasn’t sure if the business would survive. But by staying consistent—offering expert guidance, transparent pricing, and genuine care—we were able to earn the community’s trust and grow step by step.
We’ve been impressed with Massage Chair Outlet, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is a massage chair retail store based here in Dallas. We specialize exclusively in massage chairs, offering one of the widest in-store selections in the DFW area. What sets us apart is our product knowledge and commitment to service. Every customer has different needs—whether it’s pain relief, stress reduction, or everyday comfort—and we take the time to guide them through the models, explain the technology, and match them with the right chair.
We also offer open-box models—never refurbished—at 40%–60% off compared to brand-new in-box chairs, giving customers a chance to enjoy premium massage chairs at a much more accessible price. But these deals are occasional, with no model guarantees, color choices, or timing—you just have to rely on luck! 🙂
In the U.S., sales and after-sales service are usually treated separately, but my philosophy is simple: even if it’s just a single transaction, I treat every customer like a friend. Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust we’ve earned in the community. Customers know that when they walk into our showroom, they’re not just getting a sales pitch—they’re getting honest advice and long-term support.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I wouldn’t call myself a big risk-taker, but starting a massage chair store in Dallas definitely felt like jumping into the unknown. I’m an immigrant from Taiwan, and at the time, I didn’t really understand American business culture or local shopping habits, which made everything feel even more uncertain.
One of the riskiest moves was buying a wide range of high-end and open-box chairs upfront—there was no guarantee they would sell quickly. But focusing on helping people, giving honest advice, and creating a personal experience turned that risk into growth and trust within the community.
Now, I see risk as just part of figuring things out: you try, learn, adjust, and keep moving forward, all while staying true to your values and mission.
