Today we’d like to introduce you to Edgar Ramirez
Hi Edgar, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Music has been a part of my life since I was born. I grew up in a family of traveling circus performers and musicians, so I was surrounded by an entertainment atmosphere from the start. During my teenage years, I learned to play a variety of instruments, produce music, and write songs. At 13, I got into EDM and started dreaming of becoming a DJ/producer like the artists I listened to. I became obsessed with making music in my last few semesters of high school, but I didn’t pick up DJing until college.
I started out studying chemistry at A&M Commerce, but I quickly realized that music was the only thing that actually interested me. After a year, I transferred to Dallas Baptist University to study music. I knew making a living from music wouldn’t be easy, so I had to figure out a way to make it work financially. During my first semester in 2019, I went to a lot of dance parties—everything from Greek life formals to holiday events—and this inspired me to give DJing a try.
By 2021, events were picking up again after the pandemic, so I put myself out there as a DJ, even though I wasn’t actually a DJ. My first gig was a sorority formal, but two weeks before the event, my roommate got COVID, and we had to quarantine. I spent those two weeks practicing nonstop, and when the event came, it ended up being the most fun I’ve ever had. After that, the requests started rolling in—formals, weddings, birthday parties, and more. Over the next two years, I took on as many gigs as I could, using the income to pay my way through school.
By the time I graduated, I was pretty burnt out. Balancing events, schoolwork, and life in general was tough so I thought my short lived time as a DJ might be over. This was until August 2023, when some friends convinced me to turn DJing into a proper business and use my skills to serve others. Starting my own DJ business got me excited about music again and gave me a chance to develop new skills in marketing, social media, and running a business. It’s been rewarding to see my efforts pay off as the business grows and evolves.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road hasn’t been easy, but most worthwhile things take effort. Making a stable income in the music industry—whether as an artist, manager, or DJ—is challenging, with some seasons being tougher than others. When you turn something you love into a job, it’s hard to separate passion from work, which can lead to burnout and even frustration with what you once enjoyed. I’ve been through that a few times, but good advice from mentors has helped me push through.
Starting a business, especially in the entertainment industry, has been particularly challenging given today’s economic conditions. I’ve spent countless hours learning and brainstorming ways to add value for clients who are more conscious of their spending. While it’s been difficult, it’s also kept me focused on delivering a service that truly stands out.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m the founder of Sunny Side DJ, where we connect clients with DJs looking for entertainment services for weddings, business/school events, or any celebration you can imagine. I’m know professionally as “eggs” or “DJ Eggs” so Sunny Side DJ is a playful nod to sunny side up eggs. More importantly, the business name reflects the positive and upbeat atmosphere we create at every event, which is also what I believe sets us apart.
Our commitment is to delivering clean, family-friendly music that everyone can enjoy—no matter the age group. While many DJs can adapt to church or school settings, Sunny Side DJ was built around the principle of providing music that creates an inclusive, safe environment where everyone feels welcome. Our slogan, “Sit back, the party’s on us,” further emphasizes that point by showcasing our worry free process of providing DJ entertainment.
One of the things I’m most proud of is our dedication to being affordable without ever compromising on quality. My faith and upbringing taught me the importance of serving others, and DJing is our way of giving back. We work with all types of budgets—especially for schools and churches—while maintaining top-tier entertainment and equipment. Our goal is to deliver unforgettable experiences for anyone looking for what we offer.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I have been thinking a lot of pop up events and how I can support other small businesses with my skills. If your business is throwing any sort of event, I would love to bring the joy of music to it and work alongside you in that. For anyone getting married or knows someone getting married, feel free to inquiry about our services and see if we’re the right DJ fit for you. This also goes for any additional events you can think of. If you aren’t looking for any DJ services, all we ask is you support our social media and keep an eye out for anyone who is looking for a good time.
