Today we’d like to introduce you to Elva Chavez.
Hi Elva, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Elva. I grew up in Oak Cliff, spending a lot of time on Jefferson Street with my aunt who worked at a quinceañera shop. Oak Cliff taught me about community, creativity, and what it means to build something from the ground up. It’s also where I eventually decided to plant roots.
My mom was a single parent, and I learned the grind from her and the rest of my family. The women in my family are courageous in their own way. They don’t wait for permission to start something. That spirit shaped how I move through life.
We didn’t have much growing up, but I didn’t realize how little we had until I filled out my FAFSA form. College wasn’t even a thought for me until my senior year of high school. But I took a leap, said “why not me,” and bet on myself. It paid off. I became the first in my family to earn a high-school diploma, a bachelor’s, and a master’s degree.
I started my career as an intern and worked my way up to Marketing Director before turning 30. Along the way, I’ve partnered with brands like Cheetos and worked with teams whose ideas reached global stages. After nearly a decade in corporate, I decided to take everything I’d learned and build something of my own. That’s how Bull and Crow was born. Before anything else, I believe that being a good marketer starts with being a good storyteller. I was always good at that. I was a marketer before I even knew what it meant.
One of my biggest goals has always been to stay authentic to who I am and not lose that along the way. Everything I do comes back to storytelling, culture, and community. I want my work to show what’s possible when you lead with purpose and create opportunities for others to shine.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My path has had its bumps, but that’s where most of the growth happened. When you leave corporate and start something from scratch, you go from having structure and resources to figuring everything out on your own. There were moments of doubt, imposter syndrome, and the pressure of proving that I could build something real.
As a woman of color, I’ve also had to navigate rooms where I wasn’t always taken seriously or given the same opportunities. Those moments taught me how to advocate for myself and trust my instincts. You have to believe in yourself before anything, and having a solid support system is vital. Especially when you see the vision before anyone else or you’re paving a new path. If you don’t believe in yourself, how can you expect others to?
What keeps me going is knowing that I’m breaking cycles and creating something bigger than myself. Every step forward is proof that it can be done. That we can build our own tables, tell our own stories, and open doors for those who come after us. Nothing worthwhile comes easy, until it does.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Bull and Crow is a marketing agency rooted in culture and built for impact. I started it to help small businesses, creators, and brands tell their stories in a way that feels authentic and intentional. Born in Oak Cliff, we move with heart, hustle, and a focus on storytelling that connects.
We specialize in social media, influencer partnerships, email marketing, and campaign development. But more than that, we help people build strong marketing foundations. Because if you do not have a strategy, it is hard to sustain. Whether you are a business trying to reach your audience or a creator pitching to brands, we help you show up with purpose, clarity, and confidence.
What sets Bull and Crow apart is that we lead with culture. We believe in mixing creativity with strategy and building things that last. I have worked with CPG brands and local entrepreneurs who are redefining what representation and storytelling look like in Texas.
What I am most proud of is seeing people believe in their own potential after working with us. My goal has always been to make marketing approachable and impactful for those who might not have access to big agency resources. For us, culture is not a trend. It is the foundation. And when it speaks, we are here to turn the volume all the way up.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I was always that kid who wanted to know why. Why things worked the way they did, why people thought the way they did. I loved the Discovery Channel and learning how things were made. I have always been curious about the world and full of random fun facts because of it. I love history too, not just the dates and events, but understanding the reason behind how things unfolded.
I was adventurous and fearless, or as my family would say, aventada. If I wanted to try something, I went for it. I played sports, including rugby, and loved being athletic. I have always had a lot of energy and a competitive side. I was also a big music junkie. I loved going to concerts, finding new artists, and just getting lost in the vibe of it all.
Creativity has always been part of me. I have had an eye for details for as long as I can remember. Photography came naturally. I love noticing the light, the color, or the small moments that tell a bigger story. And I have always been an animal lover. I grew up surrounded by pets and still have that same soft spot today.
