Hidden Gems: Meet Erica Young of Erica A. Publicity & Management

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erica Young.

Erica Young

Hi Erica, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I wanted to be a lawyer my whole life, however I was always business savvy and wanted to build brands. So, when I started my career with Nike, I worked just the retail side of the brand, and then I went into an ambassador program based on community. I planned events, learned marketing, media relations, worked with various celebrities, and more! I completed my bachelors in Communications with emphasis in Public Relations & Marketing while working at Nike. I eventually left Nike and started my own publicity and marketing career, which is what I currently do today.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road. Entrepreneurship is not easy. Being your own boss is great until you realize your life is 100% dependable on people purchasing your products or services. Dealing with big corporations or traditional “9 to 5” positions, you know you will receive a steady income. Entrepreneurship is based on hustle and faith. This month sales may be through the roof, next month you have to prepare for worse.  My faith matches my hustle now, however there were long periods of time when I was not receiving constant income.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business.
I have a publicity and management firm. I have rebranded and changed ideas multiple times over the years, and I finally am comfortable with where my brand is now. I specialize in project management. I am overly organized.

I like to offer affordable marketing and branding services to smaller brands, athletes, and entertainers. Some people cannot figure out why their brand is not gaining traction; my firm helps with that. I help with connecting the dots for others and try to take them to their ideal level.

I am proud of my Business of the Year award. It took a lot for me to win that for my home state of Oklahoma. This displayed my work effort statewide and allowed people to see I can operate in the same way big corporations can.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
