Today we’d like to introduce you to Evette Motley-Pack.
Hi Evette, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I opened 18 years ago as a personal training studio. My husband gambled my 400 acres and lost. With two children to raise and living with my mom at the age of 32, I prayed for guidance. I was lead to massage therapy, and then to a store front space. As a single mom I sold machines to buy better machines and used my credit card to buy machines from gyms that were going out of business in order to grow. My stepfather passed, and my mother was diagnosed with dementia January of Covid. I eventually sold my stepdads truck and took the money to purchase more equipment and move into a larger space and opened the gym to the public. I was there for three years when I accepted I needed to expand and find a better location. I liquidated my Roth IRA to pay for the move to Main St. Decatur. At the same time our only tanning salon closed. I bought three tanning beds and eventually added a spa membership to the gym. I offer a dry sauna, redlight therapy, tanning, and gym available for 24 hours. I am also a LMT offering Swedish, Medical, and Sports Massage by appointment.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The first one was three years after I moved to my second location, I was only offering personal training and Massage. My husband was admitted to the hospital and placed on life support. Two months later he walked out and didn’t return to work for 3 more months. The entirety of our bills was on my shoulders plus raising our three children. The following year COVID happened. Luckily, I was outside the city limits and chose to stay open. As the main income I prayed to God, saying thank you for giving me the opportunity to prove my trust. Covid -shmovid. (Spit) Not only did I survive, but I expanded and thrived.
As you know, we’re big fans of Vette’s Fitness and Massage . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am known for compassion in others, passion for the industry, old school feel like your own personal garage gym with a upscale atmosphere feel. Everybody knows everybody. The staff and myself know most of our members by name. If you could put the TV show Cheers in a gym Vette’s Fitness is your place. Offering quality tanning and redlight therapy memberships at reasonable prices I meet the consumer needs and they know they’re not just a number. With machines that will take you to the stage, we have winning competitors that have exactly what they need. As a LMT I utilize my knowledge in kinesiology and sports to give more advanced care to my patients.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I would love to open another Vette’s Fitness in Boyd, TX. Expand on the brand and continue to give the average person a place where they can learn and grow in a gym that accepts and guides them.
