Today we’d like to introduce you to Grow Wild Greenery owner: Kimberly Miller.
Hi Grow Wild Greenery, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Grow Wild Greenery sprouted during Covid—when the DFW skies cleared from pollution, owner Kimberly Miller felt a need to do something that would help both the community and the environment. After walking away from a waste-heavy industry in apparel production, she wanted to build a business rooted in purpose and community impact. With the added strength of her husband Tim’s two decades of plant knowledge and hands-on landscaping experience, they were able to offer true plant expertise from day one. What began as a vision to offer Texas-tough plants at affordable prices to an overlooked corner of Haltom City, has grown into what customers call a “hidden gem” and where people come not only for plants, but for thoughtful guidance, community projects, and a bloom-filled space that customers say “simply feels good to stroll through during a lunch break.” Grow Wild Greenery focuses on Texas native, pollinators, edible plants, as well as resilient North Texas perennials and evergreens—because they’re good for wildlife, lowering water use, replenishing soil, and gaining carbon capture for our environment. They offer tiered landscape design services—from simple DIY guidance to full-service plans—helping families and neighborhoods create spaces that are both beautiful, sustainable and create landscapes that truly “sur-thrive” year after year. Beyond the plants, this little nursery has become a joyful hub of community giving: donating herbs and veggies to live-food pantries, supporting school gardening programs, partnering with Scout troops, teaching HOAs and gardening clubs how to “go native.” At its core, Grow Wild Greenery is about planting hope—one yard, one garden, one community project at a time. It’s where local roots run deep and where every customer becomes part of a movement to make North Texas greener, healthier, and more connected. Their motto is “Plant It Forward.” Not close enough to stroll through the blooms? You can still hang out with Grow Wild Greenery by following their weekly planting tips and uplifting Sunday “Be a Good Human” posts on Instagram or Facebook—simply search for their company name.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always unexpected parts of owning and running a business, but we push through. The most wonderful problem we have is that we’re growing fast—but we still want to stay small. We want to keep overhead low so we can keep prices low. Perhaps the most heartbreaking issue for us, though, is climate change and the effects it has on our nursery. We have lost greenhouses to windstorms, a fence to a tornado, and plants to power outages during uncommon snowstorms and torrential rains. The cost of property and business insurance is also skyrocketing for everyone.
As the American astrophysicist Carl Sagan said, “Anything else you’re interested in is not going to happen if you can’t breathe the air and drink the water.” What is always on our hearts is that we have only one planet, and God has called us to take care of the earth, the animals, and each other. We want to do our part to educate our children, neighbors, communities, and government that this is real—but also that it can be corrected, and that plants are a huge part of restoring our ecosystems.
We’ve been impressed with Grow Wild Greenery LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We’re known for being the opposite of a “big box store” experience—our customers tell us over and over again that our plant knowledge, customer care, and genuine customer service are what keep them coming back.
At Grow Wild Greenery, we don’t just sell plants; we guide people. We take the time to understand each customer’s space, sun exposure, soil, and long-term goals so they can choose plants that will truly live here—not just look pretty on the shelf. In fact, we’re known for occasionally talking customers out of certain plants when we know they won’t survive our North Texas climate. Why? Because our goal isn’t the sale—it’s the success of their yard. We want our community’s landscapes to thrive for years to come, and that means being honest, knowledgeable, and genuinely invested in every planting decision.
What sets us apart is this personal approach. We treat every visitor like a neighbor, every landscape design as a collaboration, and every plant like it’s going into our own yard. We deeply want to help people grow beautiful, sustainable landscapes, educate and empower them to plant with confidence.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
I want to leave the world better than I found it by creating a meaningful, lasting legacy through my plant nursery, community impact, and the relationships I build along the way. I want people to feel that there is still kindness, light, and goodness in the world—to know that they are part of that goodness, and that they matter. And if any blessing comes through my business, I want it to be clear that it’s only because God is love.
