Today we’d like to introduce you to Jake Schumann.
Hi Jake, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in East Texas and went to undergrad at the University of North Texas, studying biology, chemistry, and management. Then, I attended chiropractic school in Dallas at Parker University and received my Doctor of Chiropractic. I also did rotations to specialize in pediatric care in order to earn my ICPA certification, which allows me to best serve children, as well as complete my Webster certification program to care for our prenatal population through preconception, pregnancy, and postpartum care. From a very young age, the options for health care are very limited, especially in rural Texas and rural America. One huge mission I have is to provide quality care options for preventative medicine to all parts of the state and to a lot of our rural communities. I think that a lot of the “healthcare” that is available in parts of the world, country, state, is very “acute” or “emergency-driven care” and our preventative healthcare solutions are extremely limited. I believe that the body can heal itself from the inside out, needing less chemical and bioengineering from the outside and a lot more activation from within to activate and regulate normal human physiology. That’s the central premise behind what we try to do on a daily basis – remove the stress that allows pathology and dysfunction to set in (including symptoms) and allow people to heal naturally over time. I believe this option needs to be afforded to every family in all parts of the state, specifically our more rural settings in North Texas. My goal is to provide that option and create a generational shift in the way families pursue health.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think everybody’s journey is bumpy in its own way. For the most part, understanding and recognizing that there is a huge problem in our healthcare system was the first big awakening for me. If you study statistics, the World Health Organization ranks the United States near the bottom of the rankings for overall health outcomes among all industrialized countries. That is really sad because we invest a lot of funds, energy, and time toward producing decent results, and as a whole, our healthcare system is royally failing. That recognition was scary for me. I realized this during my undergrad journey at North Texas and decided then to place my focus on the preventative medicine space as opposed to traditional healthcare because I feel like that route is already pretty saturated and because the traditional methodologies are not producing good, long-term outcomes. I think the bumpiest part was realizing that, and from then on swimming upstream because there is a system in place – a traditional way to do things – and while that is only two to three hundred years old, it’s what is engrained in most people’s healthcare journeys. Trying to present a new way and a new method that produces way better long-term outcomes is a difficult journey, but it’s also the most rewarding because every time you speak to and serve a client, you have their grandkids in mind with how you care for them. Rather than solving a temporary problem, you actually get to correct the cause and salvage someone’s health journey, which inevitably changes the trajectory for that family.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Restoration Chiropractic?
What I am most proud of about what our business does is how we lead families down a very different path, with a very different set of methods, which lead to a very different way to live. To get a different outcome, you have to do something drastically different along the way. We’ve set out to do that, and it’s the hardest yet most rewarding thing that we get to accomplish every day of every week, but I truly believe it will be the most rewarding when I get to see kids and grandkids of those kids we serve now, and see families prosper. Ultimately what that means to me is that when individuals and families are healthier, they can make the biggest impact and be who they were uniquely created to be. I think that’s what sets us apart most as a business, as well as our process and approach are different as well. We take care of entire families – postpartum moms planning for future children, dads who want to stay active, and kids who are musicians, academics, and athletes. Each family and individual have different goals, but the way that our practice works is that we are qualified to care for individuals in all seasons of life, and it makes it possible for families to pursue health together. It sets us apart and brings me the most joy.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
We love the small-town feel, while also having access to great food, family activities, amazing park systems, and outdoor opportunities.
