Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Harris
Hi Jasmine , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Jasmine Harris. I was born in Dallas, TX and raised in Red Oak, TX. I am the oldest daughter of the late Thomas Earl Wade Sr and Denita Wade. Growing up I was referred to as a “natural born leader.” My parents, who were leaders in Ministry, instilled in my sister and I the importance of serving others. This same passion for serving and leading has sustained me through my entire life as I have served in various capacities from leading dance and youth ministries to singing across the United States. This passion has also led to me deciding which degree path I would like to pursue. In 2015 I became a first-generation college graduate with my Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management from the University of North Texas. I later obtained my Master of Science (MSHRM) in Human Resources Management from Tarleton State University in 2021. My journey of growing as a HR Professional and experiencing the various dynamics of the corporate world as a woman of faith, led me to found my non-profit, Corporate Girl Christ Minded in 2019. In addition to being a woman of faith, who takes joy in leading and serving, I am the wife to my amazing husband of 13 years, Jeremy Harris, Pastor of Believers United Outreach Church. Marrying someone who possesses just as much passion for serving and leading has been a joy and has allowed me to continue to freely evolve into the woman I am today.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I would say that there have been moments throughout my journey that have not been smooth. As referenced, I am a first-generation college graduate for my immediate family. It took me 7 years to obtain my bachelor’s degree. I am sure other first generation college graduates can relate that during that journey, you are fighting off tiredness, frustration, and insecurities at times because you do not want to disappoint your family and yourself. I didn’t have the perfect blueprint or reference. I felt the weight of being the “1st.” I can also relate this to starting my non-profit as well. When I founded Corporate Girl Christ Minded, I didn’t know where to start and I didn’t always have the resources. I knew that God gave me this amazing vision to start a nonprofit that will be a community of support for professional women of faith. But I struggled with “Are people going to believe in my vision and mission enough to partner and join this amazing organization?” Thankfully this fear did not come to pass. I am thankful for the partnerships and the professional women who are apart of the community of support!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Corporate Girl Christ Minded ?
In 2019 I founded my amazing non-profit Corporate Girl Christ Minded. Corporate Girl Christ Minded is a non-profit and accredited 501(c)(3) that provides a community of support for professional women of faith starting from ages 18 and up. Within our community of support, we provide career services that range from resume review/critique to our career mentorship program. We also have various initiatives that we host throughout the year such as our bi-monthly “Connect & Refresh, Brunch and Learns,” which allows professional women to meet, learn, and discuss various topics that impact them in workplace and within their lives in a safe space. We also have our quarterly “Community Check-In’ in which we empower and serve our community through volunteering. Last year we had the opportunity, due to our amazing sponsors, to launch our “CGCM Women in Business Grant” in which we award a woman owned business whose services have empowered other women whether emotionally, physically, or mentally during Women’s History Month. We will be awarding another amazing woman owned business this March. Every year, we host our Connect 2 Empower Conference. This conference is geared towards creating a space for professional women, leaders, and entrepreneurs to be empowered through sharing of resources, knowledge, and networking. We will be hosting our 3rd annual Connect 2 Empower Conference this coming fall. What makes all our services and initiatives different is that we incorporate biblical principles and values in everything that we do with the goal of empowering professional women to excel within their careers and daily lives.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
While on this journey, I have had to seek out where to start; however, I never have had to question who would be along beside me as I fulfill my life’s goals and dreams. My family have been my biggest cheerleaders and supporters. My dad unexpectedly passed away in 2021, and I am grateful to still have my mom here with me. They both helped to establish a secure foundation that continues to sustain me during the days of victories and days of reflection. My grandmother, Pauline Sanders has played a major part in my journey. She is amazing and a woman of faith. She is always pouring into me through words of encouragement and just being present! We all need that one person who we can just step away from life’s daily “to do’s” and just laugh with. My sister, Yoshua Wade, has definitely been my go-to to regroup and have a good laugh with. My husband, Jeremy Harris, is my rock! He consistently shows himself to be consistent and supportive. I am truly grateful for him being on this journey with me.
