Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Ramey.
Hi Jasmine, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
I’m originally from a little town called Smackover, Arkansas. I moved to Little Rock, Arkansas, went to college, and earned my bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2016. After I graduated college, my first consistent and decent-paying job, for the time being, was in the mortgage industry. Over time, as my living expenses increased, I eventually had to pick up a part-time retail job along the way. I always knew I wanted to run my own business eventually because the experiences I had with working “for people” wasn’t the best and me thinking long-term I knew I wanted more for myself and to actually be in a career that I’m passionate about and doing what I love, rather than having to settle for a job just to have money to pay my bills. It began to get a little depressing after a while and that’s not how I wanted to live for the rest of my life. I always knew I was destined for greatness so therefore I started to put in more effort for a change and moving out of Arkansas was the first step. To me, the opportunities in Arkansas were very limited and after living in the state my entire life, I was definitely ready for a new start and a new change of scenery. I started saving my money and put a game plan together in advance because my goal was to move to Texas by June 2020. I started early that year applying for jobs hoping that I’d have an offer waiting on me by the time it was ready for me to move. Well, hmmmm that didn’t go as planned. Out of nowhere, boom Covid hits and shook a lot of things up. I had my moments of uncertainty about if it was the best time to move when covid hit, but I just refused to put off my plans just to stay another year (maybe even more) in Arkansas, not really in a career field that I desire, limited job opportunities, and limited pay. Here it was the end of May, move-out time from my apartment, already moved my stuff to Texas, and still no job. With the pandemic going on and the unemployment rates on the rise, I still considered the risk of not having a job as soon as I had hoped. I had some challenging decisions to make especially having to consider the risk that came with it, but to sum the story up about that, I knew that the move to Texas by June was my goal, and I wasn’t going to let another INCONVENIENCE nor negativity keep me from accomplishing my goal. Life is always going to be filled with inconveniences and it could get very discouraging after a while but that’s why I believe in the power of prayer and having faith in God because I knew what may seem impossible to man most definitely won’t be impossible for God, especially if it was in his will. He’s carried me through a lot of challenges before in my life and I knew he would continue to carry me through again. So, I prayed about it, took a step out on faith, and thankfully I met my goal and had moved to Texas by June.
Well then came even more challenges. Thank God I started stacking and saving my money in advance before the move because the rainy days shole were up ahead. The first couple months of me being in Texas still no job and funds were getting low as the days went by. Yes, I became frustrated and a little down because I knew I put in a lot of time and effort early in advance trying to make sure I had my business in order because one thing about me is that I am going to handle my business one way or another. God shole had other plans for me. He constantly had to remind me that I am on his time, and he don’t jump when I say jump. Baaaaaby, he made me wait for my blessings! I’m so thankful for God because he continued to provide for me as well as bless me with some great family members who were there to support me through my tough times. Even though I was going through my cloudy days, I knew there would be some sunshine up ahead. I prayed to God and asked him to replace my fear with fuel and to continue to strengthen my mindset and shift my perspective when it came to certain things! My faith in God and my determination to succeed just wouldn’t allow me to give up. I had put in a lot of hard work to get to where I am and giving up just wasn’t an option for me. So, I continued to buckle up for the ride. I used that downtime to self-reflect on myself and my life and doing what makes me happy. I’ve always wanted to be my own boss and own my own businesses, and having my own boutique was on the top of my list. I love fashion and I love having fun and being able to be myself around other people who match my vibe. I began strategizing and putting in work to make it happen by 2021. Eventually, after being hit with several NOs from employers, I finally received a YES for employment offers (Back-to-back opportunities at that)! I continued to save money once I started my new job to help start up my business and praise God, I became the registered business owner of Jazzie’s Glam World Boutique, LLC in February 2021 and launched my business March 20, 2021!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, my journey most definitely wasn’t and still isn’t a smooth road. I was put in some very uncomfortable positions mentally and financially. No, I didn’t like having to go through those tough times, but I knew that God was and still is preparing me for something bigger, and going through the growing pains of life is just a part of it all. So, I continued to push through and learned from all the lessons I had to go through along the way.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Jazzie’s Glam World Boutique is an online women’s clothing store catering to sizes Sm-3x with fashionable trends while adding some sass with a sprinkle of Jazz. As my business continues to grow, I hope to be able to offer even more extended-sized clothing. I love to inspire women while serving it in style! My business is centered around uplifting women to express themselves freely through fashion, even if that means stepping outside of their comfort zone sometimes. By comfort zone, I’m referring to them stepping outside of their safe comfort styles and colors of clothing and switch up their style sometimes and try something new. I know that there are women out there who hide behind their clothes because of their own insecurities or live in fear of other people’s opinions when it comes to looks. I know because that use to be me in my past before I’ve grown to be the bold and confident woman I am now. This world can be very judgmental at times, but you know what, who cares. We can’t allow hateful people to suck the fun and life from fashion. Life is too short to be hiding behind boring clothes and life is too short to be anything but GLAMOROUS! With that being said, here at Jazzie’s Glam World, we specialize in bringing your wardrobe to life and making it GLAMOROUS! I don’t call my customers “customers.” I call them “glam babes” because they aren’t just basic human beings. They are glamorous queens and that’s how I want them to feel after shopping with Jazzie’s Glam World! I want my glam babes to feel beautiful inside and out.
What makes me proud is being able to see the smile on my glam babes’ faces while they shop with me at my Pop-Up Shops in person and even when they leave me good reviews about my products and their overall shopping experience with Jazzie’s Glam World. That at least makes me feel like I have completed my mission of bringing more life into their lives and their wardrobes. I’ve met some pretty awesome queens while on my journey with Jazzie’s Glam World and it amazes me when I’ve met some of the queens for the first time and we vibe so well as if we’ve been knowing each other our whole lives. I’m often known to attract a lot of positive energy from people. People often tell me I have such an amazing spirit and a friendly personality and overall, a great person to be around. There’s so much PURPOSE, PASSION, AND PERSONALITY within Jazzie’s Glam World, I’m not afraid to let it show. To be honest, the personality of my business really speaks for itself because the glam vibes are phenomenal! So authentic! From the glam fits that my business offers and the glam babes that I’ve met personally along the way, I can honestly say that the glam vibes aren’t forced, they just happen mutually, and I love it! The PERSONALITY of Jazzie’s Glam World Boutique is what sets my business apart from other boutiques because my personality is what make me uniquely me and I feel that is what makes my business stand out to others, other than the glitz and glam. When I’m able to express my personality through my business that makes my business stand out even more
What do you think about luck?
I like to refer to myself, my life, and my business as blessed! To me, the word “blessed” speaks more volume because, after all of the challenges I’ve overcome in my life, that’s not just typical luck. I’ve overcome it all by God’s grace and God’s favor over my life! I know I never would have made it this far without him and I’m not ashamed to admit it. He’s the real MVP!!!
