Hidden Gems: Meet Jeff Gordon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Gordon.

Jeff, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My first word was “car”. Literally. I have always had a passion for cars, and after a corporate career stalled, I found that I needed to start a business to support my wife and our children. I began detailing cars on the side when I worked in the corporate world, and after getting an MBA, I found that there still wasn’t a big demand in the corporate arena to hire me.

So my wife and I started a detailing and auto restoration company in the Pacific Northwest and ran it for seven years. After our daughter completed college, we made the decision to move to Texas so that our young son could be closer to his godmother and their extended family. We made the decision to continue to service just our best customers in the Northwest, which we referred to as “A-Listers,” which is how we came to the name of our new company here in the Dallas area. Currently, A-List Detail is based in Fort Worth, but we plan on expanding and adding a location in Dallas within the next 18 months.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was much harder moving to Texas than we thought it would be. Even though housing prices are low here, the cost to actually move is extremely high. There were challenges associated with getting our website finished and launched, and it didn’t help much that North Texas experienced a very difficult winter that shut a lot of things down. This area is different than the Northwest when it comes to our industry. There are so many players that it reduces the price of a detail. We were shocked that we have to charge less for a detail in Fort Worth and Dallas, which are major cities, than we could charge in Vancouver, Washington, which is a tiny city. However, we have now begun to really grow and find our niche market here and are very happy with our progress.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
A-List Detail is a company that brings a great deal of automotive restoration experience to the Dallas/Fort Worth market. With nearly a decade of experience in other markets, we became experts at delivering very high-level detailing and full restoration services to customers at very moderate prices. We have, for example, detailed and even fully restored more than 300 vintage Porsche’s and have worked on such great marques as Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Bentley. If you go to our website, you will actually see many of the great cars we have worked on. Many people contact us and think our website has great “stock” photos when in truth, almost every picture on our website is of a car we actually worked on. We have worked on cars that went on to win Concours events, sell for record amounts at auctions, and even been featured in major automotive magazines after we restored them.

We specialize in paint correction and paint protection. With nearly 18,000 hours of paint correction and ceramic coating experience, we have created packages that greatly reduce the cost of paint correction and protection when compared to our regional competition. However, we can also restore leather, repair wheels, repair and paint body panels back to factory specifications and a whole lot more. We are a fully mobile detail service provider and even can perform our full restorations on-site.
