Hidden Gems: Meet Jennifer Loyd of J Loyd Therapy and Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Loyd.

Jennifer, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I decided to become a therapist when I was 12. I started my journey by joining the US Navy and then going to college to get my two degrees. I have been a therapist now for over 20 years. It’s the coolest job ever! I began my private practice after being part of corporate workforce and have now been up and running for two years.
I began my therapeutic focus on Grief/Loss and Anger Management. I soon realized I loved working with anxiety disorders. After several years, I became trained to help those who have trauma, as well.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every business owner goes through their challenges of getting their dream and vision off the ground. It takes dedication and tenacity to accomplish feeling successful. The challenges I have faced have been marketing and getting my name out there as an individual entrepreneur. That’s not something I was taught in undergrad or graduate school. Those are lessons from ‘the front lines’. There are natural seasons of being busy in this industry and slow seasons. Those can be challenges too.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about J Loyd Therapy and Coaching?
I run a mental health therapy private practice that also provides financial coaching. I provide individual and couples counseling to those who need help with symptoms from things like anxiety, trauma, depression, bipolar disorder, and anger management. I also help those who feel overwhelmed and burdened by their finances by teaching strategies to build a realistic budget, manage stress related to budgeting, build and grow a healthy savings plan and then connection resources for building wealth.
I have a few niche things that make me special. I am a US Navy Veteran and also spent time on the spouse side of military service. I have specialized training to help those who struggle with PTSD. I also blend the skills of therapy to reduce financial distress so that people feel more confident in their money journey.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Ask questions. Ask questions from people who have been in the field you are in and learn from them. You do not have to re-invent the wheel. There are very few pioneers these days and you are not alone in your entrepreneur adventures. Be willing to learn from those who have gone before you.
