Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Norris.
Hi Jordan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve always had a love for music. As a child, I remember my dad being a huge Prince fan. He took me to one of his concerts and I fell in love with the music. I didn’t start to pursue music until college though. Spending most of my free time searching for new artists to listen to and creating playlists. Also, making beats with a close friend and DJ’ing small house parties.
After leaving college, I started investing in myself. Buying equipment and spending every free moment I had making beats. That eventually led me to the engineering side. I had a few homies that wanted to record music and I had access to the equipment. We would record every day after I would get off work and I would spend free time at work working on mixing and mastering. After a year or two, I was given the opportunity in 2019 to open a small studio (Skybox Sounds) with my partners Devin and Jay in a creative co-working space in Downtown Dallas. Since then, we have expanded to a much larger space and our focus is artist development.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road has definitely not been smooth. When pursuing your dreams there are always going to be obstacles. For me, it was teaching myself everything I know today. I didn’t grow up in music. I was in choir at school for a year or two and played the viola for a year. I had some basic knowledge but I didn’t really understand anything when I started pursuing music. My drive and passion to learn knew things is what got me here today but that also comes with lots of ups and downs.
