Today we’d like to introduce you to Ken Nwankwo.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The story of ConfiDent Smile Studio starts with my wife and I being young dentists who wanted to create and cultivate a dental environment that meets people where they are at and partners with them to step into their greater. Confidence is the fuel that can help anyone step into calling. The name is a nod to dentistry within the word ConfiDent; my wife has a knack for branding. We used a start-up team as well as mentors to help us get to where we are at now. The first year of our start-up was full of lessons that allowed us a story to share and steward so that other young dentists and business owners can glean and win. It has been a blessed learning opportunity to work and partner with my wife. The great thing is that because we lead with hearts of honor, humility, and help, it has been beautiful to see how that culture has spread in team members and our patient family. As we are navigating the months after our 1-year anniversary, we can truly say we are growing in beautiful ways across the board. It all boils down to refined perspective and refined posture that allows us to be positioned to progress well.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been as smooth as it could have been, and that has been due to partnering with certain teams/vendors that didn’t fulfill expectations. Although there is grace for that, it did delay some goals we wanted to see months ago. Our lens is that these were lessons we needed to learn so we can lead and leave the best legacy possible. It is all about perspective. We have since pivoted and have made adjustments with our marketing and who we order from to make sure we invest with the greatest return in practice, team, and patients. Another struggle of a startup secondary to marketing teams not helping to the degree we needed is the patient flow in the first year. We had team turnover because our hours weren’t as much as they expected since we weren’t getting as many patients as expected. They shared that they enjoyed working for us, but they needed more hours. We understood and have worked to create a space where more patient family flow has ensued. We are growing wonderfully and just getting started!!
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
ConfiDent Smile Studio is a privately owned dental practice by a dynamic husband and wife dental team. We are residency-trained and offer full-scope dental care. They have been trained in smile design, implants, dentures, special care dentistry, esthetic dentistry, etc. We are known for our business atmosphere, our culture, and our relationships with people in different spaces. This is what sets us apart. We design to partner with our patient family not dictate. We see it as an honor to join people on what we call the Smile Journey. This is done by seeing, sensing, sitting with, and serving the patient within the parameters of their Smile Vision and Desire. This is found out by having a conversation and treating patients as people first. Our vision is: Creating Confident Smiles, Cultivating Confident People. We see ourselves as a practice with purpose as we partner with local businesses to share their info with others, as well as our partnership with OurCalling, who serve people in our community who are without a home and less resourced. We donate a portion of every new patient appointment to this organization. We are unafraid to be generous and to collaborate. We believe this is what people at the top do; this is what ConfiDent Culture strives for. Whether people want to be patients or not, we invite others to join us in making the community better. We have so much in the planning process for ConfiDent. Get ready
How do you think about luck?
We don’t believe in luck. We see the role of lens and legwork play the biggest role. God has shown us kindness and favor in our story. We have seen teamwork, community, and tenacity allow us to soar in a season that could have led us to sink. We recently had an office flood due to a neighbor unit pipe bursting, but it happened at the right time, and we rallied our community to minimize damage. That isn’t luck, that was investing in people, and people investing right back in us. That is community at its finest. That is what ConfiDent strives and aims to create and cultivate resulting in us all collaborating. We have a lot more to do and a lot more to grow, but we are thankful for where we have grown.
