Hidden Gems: Meet Kim Slowik of Your Style Genie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Slowik.

Hi Kim, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It’s such an honor to be interviewed — I never imagined my journey would inspire others, and that means a lot to me. I’m a wife, a mom, and someone who finds real purpose in connecting authentically, listening deeply, and helping others create lasting results. Before Your Style Genie, I worked as a corporate recruiter — and I truly loved it. I was thriving in that role, helping people land their dream jobs. Then life happened — the company I worked for was acquired, and suddenly, everyone was let go. It stung at the time, but looking back, I realize it was life aligning at just the right moment — the push I didn’t know I needed.
I was raised to believe we all have God-given talents, and once you figure out what you’re great at, it’s almost a waste not to use it to lift others up. For me, that means teaching women how to style themselves in ways that help them feel confident, capable, and comfortable in their own skin. When your outside finally reflects who you are on the inside, something shifts — confidence blooms, opportunities open up, and joy follows. I could go on and on about the magical transformations I’ve seen with clients — it truly fills my heart.
What started as a lifelong passion and hobby turned into a calling. When one door closed, I decided to open a new one. I did what I know best — I got dressed up and went to work.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has it been a smooth road? Absolutely not — and honestly, I wouldn’t want it any other way.
I feel a special kind of pride when I hear my daughter say, “Mom, you’ve come so far. I wish you could go back and give that girl a hug.” Moments like that hit differently — as a mom, you realize growth isn’t just about your career, but about who you’re becoming. And growth, as any entrepreneur knows, comes with challenges.
Let’s start with the basics: I never in my wildest dreams thought I’d be building a website — then rebuilding it after realizing there were compliance issues — and eventually hiring a web designer for his expertise. Best decision ever! Then came all the legalities. I’m a rule follower, but I’m not exactly a “fine print” kind of girl, so navigating that was definitely a learning curve. I am forever grateful for my extraordinary network. I’ve learned what to do myself and what’s worth paying professionals for.
Life will always throw competing priorities at you — it’s never all fun and games. I’ve learned to do my best with what I have, trust the process, and have faith that I’m giving it my all. Every twist and turn has taught me something new. I’ve also learned to own my limitations — I’m not good at everything, and that’s okay. I focus on what I do best, stay open to learning from others, and rely on my amazing network, who always seem to show up at just the right time.
The one part of this journey I’ve never struggled with is the work I was born to do — teaching women how to style themselves. That’s where I come alive. Seeing clients’ confidence grow and knowing I played a part in that is what keeps me moving forward. The whole name of the game for me is providing a unique, personalized service that not only solves a problem but also brings confidence and happiness. After all, life is short — why wait to be happy?
At the end of the day, every challenge has only reinforced my purpose — to educate, empower, and help women feel their absolute best.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Your Style Genie is a one-of-a-kind women’s style coaching service — a fun, all-inclusive experience that teaches women how to confidently style themselves for life.
I’m a one-woman show with a big passion: helping women feel confident, capable, and completely self-sufficient through style. Unlike traditional stylists, I don’t style you — I teach you how to style yourself. Because in a world full of quick fixes, I believe self-sufficiency never goes out of style.
Everything happens virtually, face-to-face, so women across the U.S. can enjoy personalized, high-touch guidance.
Through my signature 4-Step Style Strategy, we work together to:
-Define your unique style vibe so every outfit feels authentically you.
-Discover your most flattering colors and fits that make you look and feel amazing.
-Create an easy, repeatable outfit formula for any occasion.
-Learn where and how to shop smart — saving time, energy, and money.
The process starts with a detailed style questionnaire, your measurements, and a full-length photo. From there, I guide you step by step through a thoughtful, proven system that ends with your personalized Signature Style Strategy Guide — your forever style roadmap. Clients also love the custom digital tools they receive to keep their new knowledge organized and accessible for life.
I specialize in helping women who dread shopping finally enjoy it — because once you know what to look for, how to put things together, and where to find it, shopping becomes fun again. As I always tell my clients: of course you hated shopping before — no one ever taught you how!
By the time we’re done, you’ll stop feeling stuck in front of your closet and start feeling confident, put-together, and excited to get dressed. Because Your Style Genie isn’t just about clothes — it’s about confidence, joy, and showing up as your best self… with a little fun along the way.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
By nature, I’m a pretty risk-averse person. I’m positive, but I’m also a realist — and honestly, everything about entrepreneurship feels risky to me. I’m constantly figuring things out as I go. As a rule follower who doesn’t love messing up, starting a business meant stepping far outside my comfort zone. And no one really tells you that most businesses don’t see a return on investment for 2-5 years — I’d call that risky!
Fortunately, I’m persistent and resourceful. I’ve learned to ask questions, seek guidance, and build genuine connections along the way. Every challenge has pushed me to grow, and I’ve realized that when you stay true to your purpose and keep showing up, the road eventually rises to meet you.
