Hidden Gems: Meet Kimmie Ellis of La Palmilla Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimmie Ellis.

Hi Kimmie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My name is Kimmie Ellis, and I am 36 years old. I am a first-generation American in my family. I am living THE American dream. I was a first-grade teacher for nine years and left education in 2019. My husband Mitchell and I went on a personal marriage retreat and decided to build a farmhouse on 20 acres in Mitchell’s hometown, Glen Rose. We got into the hospitality industry in 2020 and excelled in customer service and property management. The start of what would become Team Palmilla happened when friends got together for community during COVID! All glory goes to God.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life has such ups and downs, doesn’t it? I’d like to tell you about my dad since today is Memorial Day. My father, Sunny Lov, has been an inspiration to me. As a young boy in Cambodia, he witnessed firsthand the horrors of the genocide that had engulfed his country. Despite the unimaginable tragedy he had faced, he refused to give up. He was determined to make a better life for himself and his loved ones, and he knew that the only way to do that was to leave Cambodia and start anew in a place where he could truly be free. He came to America! Sunny started his life in Odessa, TX. After working the oil and gas industry for a few years, he made the move to Mansfield and became a Dallas Police Officer. Shortly after, he was killed in the line of duty. Losing a parent at such a young age is never easy, and though I do not have many memories of my father, the impact he had on my life is tremendous. I am grateful for his perseverance. I’d like to also give a shoutout to my mom, who has carried our family through the dark times.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
La Palmilla Texas is a boutique resort. Our goal is to host corporate retreats, weddings, family reunions, and church retreats! When there is not an event going on, we operate as a resort. Our amenities include a fitness center, pool, pool spa, Brazos River access, walking trails, and more! Located only 45-60 mins from DFW, you can experience a blend of Marfa and Mexico!

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Being in business with your spouse isn’t easy, but a mentor pointed out that our different strengths make us the perfect team! I try not to focus on how we get to the end goal but that we get there united! The little things we could argue about don’t matter! I’ve learned that grace goes a long way. My prayer is that I recognize the grace God’s given me and that I would extend it to everyone I encounter!

I’ve leaned on the scripture Proverbs 16:4 – “Before you do anything, put your trust totally in God and not in yourself. Then every plan you make will succeed.”

‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭16‬:‭3‬ ‭TPT‬‬

I have faith that the Lord will make my business successful.
