Hidden Gems: Meet Lana Lynch of Montclair Counseling

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Lana Lynch.

Lana Lynch

Hi Lana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi all! I am Lana Lynch, MA, LPC, and I own Montclair Counseling. From an early age, I found immense joy in helping others. Whether encouraging a friend or cheering someone on during a tough time, I always naturally wanted to support those around me.

This passion for helping people only grew stronger as I got older. One pivotal moment was during my college years when I volunteered at my church with high school students. Witnessing the profound impact of offering a listening ear and compassionate guidance solidified my desire to pursue a career in counseling.

My journey into professional counseling began when I realized that my love for assisting others could be more than just a personal trait. It could be my career. I pursued a degree in counseling, driven by the desire to walk alongside individuals on their path to healing. I became a licensed professional counselor, committed to providing a safe and supportive space for people to navigate their challenges.

Today, I specialize in working with college-aged individuals and young adults, focusing on life transitions, anxiety, and depression. This transitional period, moving into adulthood, is a transformative time filled with excitement and uncertainty. I am passionate about helping my clients navigate these changes and providing the support and guidance they need to thrive.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
My journey into counseling hasn’t been without its challenges, especially during my early years as I worked on completing my hours for my licensure after graduate school. One of the most significant struggles I faced was finding my specialty.

Initially, I worked with a wide range of clients, from children to couples to older adults- trying to discover where I could make the most meaningful impact. It was an intimidating task to obtain and retain clients while simultaneously trying to figure out which area truly resonated with me.

As time went on, I took a step back to reflect on my own life experiences and how they could guide me in my professional journey. I realized that the high school, college-aged, and young adult years were profoundly transformative for me personally. Moreover, I observed a growing need among my clients in this demographic who were struggling with transitioning into adulthood, exacerbated by factors like social media, the COVID-19 pandemic, and changes in family life.

Identifying this niche was a turning point for me. It wasn’t just about finding a specialty; it was about finding where I could make a real difference based on my own story and the needs I saw in my clients. This process allowed me to channel my passion and joy into assisting young adults navigate this critical phase of life.

So, while the road hasn’t always been smooth, these challenges have shaped me into the counselor I am today – someone deeply committed to supporting these young adults during their transformative journeys.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
I enjoy working in the DFW area because of the access to resources and the strong professional network. The city has an abundance of educational institutions, medical facilities, and community organizations that provide valuable support for my clients.

Additionally, the extensive network of mental health professionals fosters collaboration, professional growth, and opportunities for referrals. This environment not only assists my practice but also allows me to stay connected with a community of colleagues who share a commitment to improving mental health in our community.

As a therapist in the DFW area, one challenge I face is the fast pace of living here. The busyness of DFW can make it difficult for both clients and myself to find time for relaxation and self-care, which are essential for preventing burnout. It’s important for me to prioritize my own well-being and help clients do the same despite the hectic pace of life in DFW.

Overall, the DFW area’s rich resources and professional network greatly enhance my practice, while the challenge of its fast pace reminds me to stay mindful of self-care for both myself and my clients.
