Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTonya Magee.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started doing photography around 2009 as a mother who wanted to capture her children in karate lessons. My husband was contracting overseas, and my sister had just passed away. I used photography as an escape to take my mind off that I was dealing with grief and my husband was away in Afghanistan. Not only did that help, as a daughter of a bishop, my father also wanted me to take photos at his church services and that gave me practice and opened up many doors to work at other churches capturing their events. It took several years to decide that this was the path for me, so I got serious with my craft and started learning all I could learn about photography. I would add a word to this sentence. I had a basic Canon T3i and leaped to a Canon 6D, my camera for years until recently. Constantly asking about videography as part of my business services led me to learn and offer video. In 2020, during the pandemic, my husband and I shot our first music video, “Yahweh,” by the artist Jokia on YouTube with over 740,000 views. Nowadays, we shoot more videos than photography, and I’ve learned to love it. This year I’ve enrolled at Full Sail University to learn more about the trade of being a content creator. We recently changed our name from M-Ages Photography to New Image Media LLC because we’ve grown and expanded both services.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
At first, we did a lot of work for free or discounted prices. I could understand that because of not having the experience to charge more. For the most part, we haven’t had many problems and always try within our power to correct them.
As you know, we’re big fans of New Image Media LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
New Image Media LLC is a small veteran and women-owned business that offers videography and photography. We are mostly hired for events, parties, weddings, and personal branding sessions. We pride ourselves on being a husband-and-wife team. We are proud that we are known for our quality work and are easy to work with. I think what sets us apart is what we bring to the table as with work ethics and equipment. You can find us on our website at www.newimagemediallc.com and on social media platforms under New Image Media LLC.
What do you think about luck?
For the most part, I don’t use the word luck. I am blessed that God has paved the way for us to be in the right places at the right time for opportunities that many don’t get with being a small business owner.
