Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauryn Lewis.
Lauryn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My passion for horses started when I was 12 years old. I spent all my free time at the local Fair Grounds in Durango, CO where all the FFA and 4-H kids kept their horses. My parents had never been involved with horses so the fairgrounds was the only place where I could be with horses every day. I dedicated all my free time to learn as much as I possibly could which led to my love for horses to grow more and more every day. My senior year of high school I spent a full summer with a horse trainer helping train young horses and moving cattle up the Colorado mountains. I decided my next step in life was to move to the great state of Texas to find my way into the horse industry. I spent 5 years moving around Texas working for various horse trainers, managing a few different ranches along the way. I then moved to Georgia for a year to continue my education. I worked for a top Barrel horse trainer and helped manage a Dressage barn. After living in Georgia for a year I decided I wanted to move back to Texas to start my own business giving lessons to beginner riders. I truly believe horses are the best animals that bring people together and they teach you so much about ourselves! I love to see the smile horses bring to people who don’t get to spend as much time with them as I do. I am truly blessed to work with such amazing animals and people every day!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Through the years of being around horses, I have had a few challenges, between horses getting hurt and learning new tactics and training techniques with different trainers, moving state to state, barn to barn always working to find my foot in the door in each new place I moved to. Although there were struggles at times I learned and experienced so much that all had a part in making me the horseman that I am today!
We’ve been impressed with Double L Equine, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Double L Equine is a horseback riding lesson program oriented towards beginner riders. Some kids starting at the age of 2 and some adults in their mid 40’s! I specialize in novice and timid riders teaching my own techniques on how to relax, trust your balance and learn how to communicate with the horse underneath you. I am proud to be a part of growing the equine industry and teaching the younger generation about not just horsemanship, but responsibility and perseverance. Double L Equine sets a solid foundation for anyone wanting to give horseback riding a try!
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I have loved Dallas since the day that I set foot here 6 years ago. I love being able to enjoy a nice evening out in the big city or cruising only 20 minutes out and enjoying a weekend on the ranch!
