Today we’d like to introduce you to Lucia Macias.
Lucia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started this dream six years ago, and it has been growing little by little. The journey hasn’t been easy, but I’ve stayed committed to sharing the beauty of Mexican artisan work. I work closely with artisans from Chiapas and Oaxaca, building strong connections and supporting their craft. It brings me joy to share their beautiful creations with the world and to help their communities thrive.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. Building this dream has come with challenges, especially growing slowly and learning everything on my own. There were moments of doubt, financial limitations, and times when I felt discouraged. But each struggle taught me something and pushed me to keep going. Staying focused on my mission and the artisans I work with has helped me overcome every obstacle.
We’ve been impressed with Tiendita de Frida, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My brand focuses on sharing the beauty of Mexican artisan work. I collaborate directly with artisans from Chiapas and Oaxaca, offering handmade accessories and crafts that celebrate their traditions and artistry. What sets my brand apart is the personal connection I have with each artisan — every piece comes from a relationship built on trust, respect, and fair collaboration.
I’m most proud of representing their work with authenticity and giving customers a meaningful way to support these communities. I want readers to know that every item has a story, a creator, and a cultural heritage behind it. My mission is to honor that work and bring it to people who truly appreciate handcrafted pieces.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I’ve been fortunate to have the support of many people along the way. First and foremost, the artisans I work with in Chiapas and Oaxaca deserve all the credit—they are incredibly talented and dedicated, and their work is the heart of my brand. I’m also deeply grateful for the unconditional support of my husband, as well as the encouragement of friends, family, and loyal customers who have believed in my dream and helped me keep going. Their trust and enthusiasm have been essential in helping me grow and continue sharing these beautiful crafts with the world.
