Hidden Gems: Meet Marietta Kuhn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marietta Kuhn.

Hi Marietta, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Hello EVERYONE I’m so excited to be here to welcome you to my small business, and to help you get better acquainted with my services and how I can help change your life.

First of all let me take this time to THANK Voyage Dallas for this prestigious honor and highlighting my small business. My name is Marietta Kuhn, and I am a Home Stylist/Organizer and the Proud Owner of Revamped by Mary, LLC. I have been married for 27 years to the most hard-working 20 year Military Vet/Logistics Manager and Realtor- Romier Kuhn; my BIGGEST Supporter. I am also the doting mother to 2 amazing kids that inspire me to be my absolute best “self” daily. I specialize in Affordable and Very Inexpensive room/space enhancement, styling, staging, and organization. I service the DFW area- Aubrey, Denton, Frisco, Plano, Dallas, Fort Worth, etc. My passion for home styling/organizing began during my husband’s illustrious 20-year military career. Amidst multiple moves and transitions; I had the opportunity to Transform, Revitalize, and Refresh each and every home making every new dwelling look even better than the last. Prior to starting my business, I obtained my degree in psychology in December 2000, where I began vigilantly serving our mental health community. I was abundantly blessed to hold many titles within the mental health field; Program Manager, Mental Health Technician (serving directly under the Chief of Psychology at Fort Sill, Ok), processing hundreds of soldiers daily to assess their mental health capacity and wellness during deployments and combat. I also held titles through the State of Texas as a QIDP (Qualified Intellectual Disabilities Professional) and as a Denton County Mental Health Act Case Manager, ACT Program Manager, Hospital Liaison, and most recently as an Intake Specialist (prior to my departure from the private sector).

But I always felt I was destined for “GREATNESS.” My grandparents were the hardest working people on the planet (“no lie”) and inspired me to be GREAT everyday I stepped out of bed. Working in the mental health field was gratifying, but it was not “My Calling, My Purpose, nor “My Passion”. Growing up, my grandparents encouraged me to “Find My Purpose In Life/My Calling”; something I was “Passionate” about. After years of soul searching, I really started to reevaluate my life following a devastating fire on December 31, 2019, which completely demolished our home; and a few months after that COVID reared it’s “ugly head.” I felt that I needed a positive outlet from all the devastation around me, and to also maintain my mental health; I began helping family and friends transform their spaces in late 2020/early 2021 as a positive deterrent from the vicious toll/carnage left by COVID. I’ve ALWAYS LOVED decorating spaces even as a child and I discovered later in life it truly was my PASSION!!!! So after persistent encouragement from family and friends and solid/noteworthy home/space transformations; Revamped By Mary was born. In my line of work, I find that a lot of people struggle with basic home design/decor/organizing, pulling their spaces together, and bringing the visions of their home to life. I also notice that after several months or years, most people feel the desire to throw everything out and start from scratch. That’s where Revamped By Mary swoops in to save the day; helping to Revitalize and Refresh your spaces and save you hundreds/thousands of dollars by using what you have and making a few additions to give you a Fresh, Fabulous, New & REVAMPED look. A lot of people think they can’t afford interior design/decorating, but w/Revamped By Mary, LLC; you don’t have to have corporate money to get your own personalized/revamped space (within your designated budget) and a space that you will be proud to call HOME!!!! Very few people get the opportunity to do what they REALLY LOVE, and I’m so very thankful and blessed that this is now my life.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Starting your own business and jumping out on faith is NEVER easy, but you have to trust in God and your abilities to BE GREAT!!! It was very scary at first to leave the private sector and lose a steady paycheck, but with God’s Grace, my business continued to flourish daily and expanding throughout the metroplex. I have been very blessed to maintain steady projects and expand my business, but I am a “One Woman Operation”; so I continue to struggle with balancing day-to-day operations, projects, household duties, social events, and being a wife/mother (there are ALWAYS very late nights and very little time for yourself). I also struggle to promote my business through social media since I am not that savvy on social media.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next, you can tell us a bit more about your business?
As noted in my introduction, I specialize in Very Affordable and Inexpensive room/space enhancement, styling, staging, and organization. I also specialize in holiday design/styling. I started staging “List” homes in the Spring of 2022 and helped homeowners/sellers garnish MULTIPLE offers WELL OVER List Price which quickly caught the attention of real estate professionals in my area. They proposed a partnership with me and now I currently work with 3 top producing real estate agents; including my husband, staging homes throughout the metroplex, along with continued styling/organizing other homes in the area.

During COVID, I also started a custom basket line, “The People’s Baskets,” which is derived from my maiden name- Peoples. During COVID, “The Peoples Baskets” offered a convenient, contactless, and worry-free option to deliver thoughtful gifts and goodies to loved ones, friends, teachers, nurses, doctors, law enforcement, etc. The Peoples Baskets also provided a way to gift a beautifully packaged array of high-quality/premium items without even leaving the home during the pandemic. Baskets were packaged and delivered for all occasions- Holidays, Birthdays, Anniversaries, Farewells, Get Wells, Congratulatory, Graduations, Parties, Special Thank You’s, and the occasional “Pick me up.” I even coined a catchy phrase… “When flowers won’t do… The people’s baskets come through”; and encouraged buyers to “Take out the “Guesswork,” and let The Peoples Baskets do the “Leg work” for all their shopping and gifting needs.” However, As my home styling/organization projects increased, I had to cut back on The People’s Baskets; but I still complete housewarming baskets for real estate agents and occasional baskets for birthdays and graduations. The People’s Baskets and products offered can still be accessed through FaceBook.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
It’s my goal to get my family more involved and focus on building a long-lasting legacy for my children. My husband, Romier Kuhn w/EXP Realty and Dynacraft, recently acquired his real estate license, so I would love to partner with him on more real estate projects. I’ve always stated that we are the “One…Two Punch”; as Real Estate and Home Design/Styling go hand and hand. There is nothing I want more than for my husband and I to build a DYNASTY together, and I know we will because my grandparents ALWAYS told me “I Was Destined For GREATNESS” and I know in my heart I will fulfill their prophecy because they laid the groundwork for me to BE GREAT!!!
