Today we’d like to introduce you to Markeisha Kemp.
Hi Markeisha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my business from a place of passion and purpose. As a creative mom with an entrepreneurial mindset, I was always the one organizing parties, making custom treats, and creating things from scratch. Over time, I turned those skills into a real business by designing coloring books that celebrate Black joy, faith, and confidence, and offering custom party favors that bring events to life.
The coloring books came from wanting to give children something meaningful. I wanted them to have books that reflect their beauty, speak to their identity, and keep them encouraged. My first one was called “My Crown, My Color,” and it opened the door for so many more ideas that I’ve been able to bring to life.
I didn’t have a blueprint. Just drive, faith, and a creative spirit. Now I’m balancing business, school, and motherhood while building a brand that brings inspiration and fun to families one page, one party, and one product at a time.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey has had its ups and downs, but every part of it has taught me something. One of the biggest challenges was moving to a new city and having to start over from scratch. I came to Houston with big goals but had to rebuild my support system while balancing school, business, and being a full-time mom.
There were times when I hit creative blocks or felt completely burnt out. Running a business that’s so hands-on, especially with custom work, takes a lot of energy and focus. Some days I had orders to fill, homework to do, and a little one who needed me all at once. It forced me to learn how to manage my time better, even when I felt overwhelmed.
There are still days when I doubt myself, especially when I go days or even weeks without any orders or purchases. But I remind myself why I started and keep showing up. It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about M&M Haus of Creations ?
My business is called M&M Haus of Creations. I specialize in custom party favors and themed creations, along with designing and publishing children’s coloring books that focus on faith, confidence, and representation. I started this brand to bring more joy, creativity, and meaning to everyday moments, whether that’s a child opening a coloring book that looks like them or a parent celebrating a birthday with one-of-a-kind treats.
What sets my business apart is the personal touch behind everything I create. Every product is made with intention, from the affirmations in my books to the little details in each party favor. I create things that feel special and speak to the heart.
I’m most proud of how my brand uplifts kids who don’t always see themselves represented. My coloring books are filled with positive messages, diverse characters, and fun activities that reflect real culture and creativity. I also have more coloring books in the works that will continue to celebrate identity, build confidence, and spread joy. M&M Haus of Creations is all about turning meaningful moments into lasting memories.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I honestly don’t have a mentor right now. What has worked for me is doing a lot of research, learning through trial and error, and staying prayed up. I ask God for guidance and clarity when I feel stuck. I also watch a lot of videos, read articles, and look for people who are doing what I want to do, even if I don’t know them personally. I haven’t found that one person to guide me yet, but I’ve learned that sometimes your consistency and faith can teach you just as much.
