Today, we’d like to introduce you to Meredith Zahorsky.
Hi Meredith, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I was born and raised in Jackson, MS. High school was a hard season for me. I was regularly bullied and reached the point where I no longer wanted to go to school. I often felt like no one would stand up for me and felt helpless to change the circumstances I found myself in.
However, when I graduated HS and moved to OK, where I attended Mid-America Christian University, I found my footing. I developed a heart for people and started volunteering with HS students to make a difference in their lives and lead them to Christ. Additionally, I pursued my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy and became a therapist. I served as a therapist in school and foster care settings and am currently in private practice.
My husband and I walked through our own season of infertility, miscarriages, and a stillbirth. This season of grief and loss drew me to Christ more and more. I am passionate about walking with people who are suffering, whether that is from infertility and infant loss or simply life. Suffering finds us all, and we count it an honor to walk beside those who are hurting.
Because of my journey, I regularly have the opportunity to speak about infertility and infant loss at churches, conferences, and mom groups. Additionally, I am a part of a ministry at our church that supports those who are suffering from infertility and infant loss. Hearts Like Hannah truly walks with those who suffer and offers hope.
I felt led to write my story as a way to comfort those whose paths include infertility and infant loss. A year and a half ago, Magnificent Grief was published and became an Amazon best seller.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is the road ever all smooth? I definitely experienced roadblocks at times.
My husband and I moved several times early in our marriage, and each time, I had to rebuild my professional road. Moving states before your counseling license is fully complete always brings challenges, as each state requires different supervision hours, and they don’t always play nice accepting hours from different states. Those were definitely stressful times professionally.
Personally, experiencing infertility and infant loss was a season full of grief. I experienced a lot of sadness, anxiety, and, at times, thought I may never have children here on earth.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I have been a part of multiple group practices, and in July of 2021, I took the big leap and opened my own private practice.
I spent years building a reputation of meeting children, families, and adults where they were in their pain and offering hope for healing. I became known for not giving up and advocating for children, families, couples, and individuals in need.
I currently offer virtual services to ages 14 and up, including families and couples. I am most proud of offering hope to all that I see. Without hope, despair grows, and at journey counseling, we believe there is always hope.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memories surround the Neshoba County Fair in Philadelphia, MS. It is a week-long fair full of horse races, rides, and concerts. We grew up spending summer weeks enjoying the fair with family and friends.
