Hidden Gems: Meet Michele Billings of Balance of Care

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michele Billings.

Hi Michele, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The inspiration to begin assisting others as a personal health advocate came after being prompted early 2025 by Jessica Nelson APRN, whom I worked with at a local assisted living community. She believed I had what it took to guide seniors and their families during difficult and not so difficult times on their health journey. The more research I did, the more I realized I had been advocating for the people I’ve worked with as a nurse all along. I took her advice, I either go all in or not at all, I went all in! Balance of Care Personal Health Advocate was created and is flourishing in and around the dfw area.

My love and heart for seniors has been leading me to open a small residential care home. Marigold Manor is putting its roots down in Glen Rose. Providing a safe and personal care home for seniors to age in place.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
There are always speed bumps and sometimes pot holes in the way! Nothing worth having comes easy. I put everything into my professional work. Whether it’s for myself or corporate. I hit the ground running February 2025. Then I started to doubt myself and my abilities late summer. I returned to assisted living for a short time, only to be reminded the limits placed on me and the care I provide.

My sisters and I were raised by entrepreneurs. Our dad always said he’d never work for someone else and I never understood why. Why they would want to put so much time and effort into a business when they could work for someone and leave it at the door. Well, I get it now!

I love the time I spend and the care and attention I’m able to provide the families I assist. Having my family behind me and supporting this dream has made every minute worth it!

We’ve been impressed with Balance of Care, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Balance of Care was created to assist families by giving them a point man (woman) for all of their healthcare needs. Someone to help understand their disease process, different medication and options. To help find care as things change or housing needs come up. My goal is to be the support and the calm when families are in a health crisis.

What were you like growing up?
Growing up in Roswell, NM I studied ballet and tap dancing, played softball and volleyball and had such a fun job at the local skating rink! I was voted Most Spirited my Senior Year in 1991. Our family owned restaurants so I learned the art of customer service and string work ethic from a young age. I met my husband at age 19, his dad set us up on a blind date, been together 33 years now with 3 kids and 2 grandbabies!
