Hidden Gems: Meet Myeisha Martinez of Essence Massage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Myeisha Martinez

Hi Myeisha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was a stay at home mom, all my children were in school, and I needed something to do for myself. So, while the children were at school I started taking classes at a local massage school. I went on to work at that school for almost ten years as a Licensed Massage Therapist and ended up being one of their licensed instructors for a few more years. Eventually, with the encouragement of my oldest daughter and my husband, I decided to go off on my on. Initially, I leased two rooms in the back of a chiropractor’s office over in Flower Mound, and after a year I was ready to expand. Today, three years later, I am blessed to say that our family-owned and family-run Essence Massage is still going strong.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?

Location was also something we were wary about in the beginning. “Location, location, location.” is what you hear everyone say all the time, and when we first opened our doors, we were worried our space would be impossible to find tucked away in the back of the office park. However, that major fear was relieved, because honestly, we couldn’t have asked for a more serene and quiet location. It actually ended up working in our favor.
Also, this industry is very uncertain. As an employee, I knew to prepare for slow periods, and I took this with me when I became a business owner. What I didn’t realize was that I would be wor

We’ve been impressed with Essence Massage, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We started out as more of a day spa but because of our clients needs we are geared more towards wellness. Unlike most massage places we don’t charge by the service, with the exception of our lymphatic and prenatal massage, we charge by the time. All of our clients needs are so different that we decided it would be best to charge by time and give customized massages instead. So yes, all of your massages are customized and geared toward our clients specific needs.

What’s next?
We are turning our outlook towards wellness. We already offer contrast therapy which includes a sauna and cold plunge. Also we will soon be offering different detox packages. Will soon be offering Thai-yoga which is a combination of yoga poses and Thai massage.
