Hidden Gems: Meet Natalie and Traci Grant of Fashion Granted

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie and Traci Grant.

Hi Natalie and Traci, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi, I’m Natalie- the daughter part of this mother/daughter duo and my mom is Traci! Fashion Granted began as a lifestyle/fashion inspiration blog in 2017. We coined the name “Fashion Granted” because my maiden name is Grant. Who doesn’t love a clever play on words? I enjoyed writing blog posts that inspired women in many avenues- fashion, organization, recipes, and lifestyle tips.

Shortly after beginning the blog, my mom and I started having conversations about selling clothing items. Learning the latest fashion trends was always fun for both of us. Mom, being an interior decorator, has access to the Dallas Market where I had gone multiple times with her to shop for her clients over the years.

One night, we were dreaming up a business idea of a clothing boutique and realized how convenient it was to already have access to the apparel markets at the Dallas Market Center/World Trade. We purchased a few pieces and slowly began to sell these items to close friends and family. I remember when we sold out of the first clothing bundle we purchased- my mom and I thought “Maybe we really do have a knack for picking out fashion for women”.

There was quite a learning curve in starting a small business and we are still learning every day, but we quickly grew to enjoy the process. We found so much joy-inspiring women in how they dress. We believe women just feel better when they dress for the day in clothing they love to wear.

In June 2018, we had the opportunity to lease a small retail space in a local hair salon and spa. This is where our love for boutique clothing really blossomed. We wanted our business to cater to both my age and my mom’s age. We provided affordable boutique clothing to my college friends and to my mom’s friends/clients. Our goal from the beginning has been to offer pieces that are classic while incorporating a few trends here and there. We want both generations to look through our collection and find something they love.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
As we continued leasing our small space in the salon, many personal life changes were occurring. I entered graduate school, graduated, and got married all within a year and a half. This was probably Fashion Granted’s most challenging time as we had to put the business on the back burner for a while. Meanwhile, through all these big transitions, the pandemic hit, and just like so many other small shops, it greatly affected our business as well. Fashion Granted was put on hold in 2020 and through the first half of 2021. During this time, I felt a void in expressing my creative side, so we began dreaming once again. We both missed being involved in the fashion world.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
In June 2021, my mom and I relaunched Fashion Granted all online, but also provided personal shopping for existing clients. We created a user-friendly website that would feature our new collections. Our brand got a little makeover and we soft-launched in the summer! Fast forward to now, we are online and very recently added some of our clothing collection to a pop-up shop in the Lonestar Mercantile in Allen, Texas- Booth A411. We are collaborating with another local business owner- sharing a space with Ecothologie, a modern bohemian company, that offers homewares & one-of-a-kind accessories.

The mission of Fashion Granted is to make your day a little brighter by providing curated clothing that will make you smile, add confidence, & bring extraordinary style to your wardrobe.

We love supporting local owned businesses & artisan, especially those that assist women in need. We regularly donate to local charities, and we have plans to become more involved in this area of need in the future. Our dreaming continues…

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
We wouldn’t say we believe in luck, but we have definitely been in the right place at the right time. We have met people along the way who have helped us and provided knowledge about running a business and this industry. My mom and I feel there is so much more we can contribute to the small business community as we continue to grow.
