Today we’d like to introduce you to Oleg Vaso.
Hi Oleg , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I was born and raised in Lviv, Ukraine, and came to the United States alone at 17, right after finishing up the high school. I didn’t know what was waiting for me since everything was new and different.
Philadelphia is where my American journey started. I went to community college full-time and worked full-time at a pizza shop in downtown Philly to pay for school without taking on debt. That small pizza shop and its owner (Peter) ended up shaping so much of who I became. It taught me business fundamentals, communication, language, and above all, the discipline and work ethic that still guide me today.
After some years later, life took me to Dallas, TX. where I continued my education, and earned my bachelor’s degree in business from UT Arlington, while working with a general contractor in Dallas TX. That’s where everything clicked. I realized construction was more than work—it was something I wanted to build my life around. After graduating I took a biggest risk of my life and opened my own construction company. That decision marked the start of the next chapter, the one I’m still writing every day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I don’t believe smooth roads exist when it comes to owning a business. You constantly face obstacles that you have to overcome through problem solving and being able to adapt.
For me personally the biggest struggle was balancing full time work and full time school, and then later building a construction business from scratch.
