Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Moore.
Hi Rachel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a wife and mother of two. I have been married to my husband for 13 years and have a 6 year old girl and 4 year old boy. I graduated from Texas A&M University in 2007 and went on to get my doctorate in Chiropractic from Parker University here in Dallas. I have now been practicing chiropractic for 11 years and I love every minute of it! My dad is who introduced me to chiropractic but I didn’t always want to be one. When I was growing up, we didn’t know that kids could be adjusted.
Well, I started going to the chiropractor when I was 17. Typical neck pain issue. It was amazing how much better I felt even after one visit! I continued to go so that I could keep my body aligned. At the time, I had no idea that chiropractic could help with headaches/migraines. I had suffered with them since I was about 10. Not a fun thing to deal with when all you want to do is play. It was a normal part of my life. I always had Advil handy in case. I had 2-3 headaches a week. I had been going to the chiropractor for probably 2-3 months when I realized I was no longer having headaches!! From that point, I was a believer! It wasn’t until I was in college when my dad ended up in the hospital. I was on the pre-med route. I had never thought of chiropractic as a career path until I decided that I didn’t want to just treat the symptoms. I wanted to find the problem and figure out how to fix it! I decided that maybe chiropractic could give me that rather than going the medical route. I graduated from Texas A&M and went to chiropractic school! I fell in love with it! The more I leaned about pregnancy and pediatrics, the more I wanted to make that my focus. God definitely took me down the path I needed to find my passion. I feel very fortunate to have found that right out of college! From there the rest is history. I have been practicing since 2011. I try to find all of the continuing education that I can find on the topic. I truly love what I do. Getting to be a part of someone’s pregnancy and postpartum is amazing and then for that momma to trust me to also care for their baby is the best feeling.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have definitely been some bumps along the way. My dad passed away while I was in chiropractic school. That was a hard thing to deal with while also trying to study and stay on top of my learning. Once I graduated, I decided that I needed to practice back home for a bit to be there for my mom and hopefully have an easier time building a practice in a town full of people I know. Sounds easy right… well I was married and lived in Fort Worth at the time. I travelled back and forth to Waco every week for a year. Then it was time to find something closer. I found a job that was high volume and a lot of hours. Pregnancy and pediatrics were a very small part of this practice. I still wasn’t doing what I loved! In 2015, I finally opened an office where I could cater to the patients, I wanted to fill my office. Since then, I have really be able to focus on not only pregnancy and pediatrics but families!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a family and wellness chiropractor with a focus on pregnancy and pediatrics. I love seeing all members of the family but my favorite are newborns! Something about seeing a newborn that is struggling with breastfeeding and seeing the changes that can be made in just one visit! I am always trying to better what I do. I put a lot of time into learning new techniques that will help the way I see patients and hopefully get them better and faster results. I am craniosacral therapy certified and am also working on lactation as well.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I would love for chiropractic to become a first choice for care rather than a last resort for treatment not only in pain but for breastfeeding and newborn issues.
