Today we’d like to introduce you to Reginald White.

Hi Reginald, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Reginald White. I’m the owner of White And Associates Insurance Group and a Regional Sales Manager with HealthMarkets Insurance Agency, a subsidiary of United Healthcare.

I have been in the insurance industry for over 13 years. I attribute a lot of my success and resilience to my parents. My Father, who was born in Louisiana once told me, “Never let another man’s perception of you dictate who you would like to be. Only you control that.” With only a third grade education and a thick Creole accent, he became one of the best auto mechanics in Milwaukee and later, in Houston TX. Self-taught, he never let anything stop him from opening a Cal’s Garage and Auto Body Shop. Failure was not part of his mindset or vocabulary.

My Mother who was born in the deep South, never told me to be the best I can be, but she continuously demonstrated it. With three young children: me the oldest, my younger brother, and my baby sister, she worked during the day and went to college at night until she earned her masters degree in business. She became one of Miwaukees most successful entrepreneurs in real estate. She owned one of the city’s largest daycare facilities, and a string of rehabilitation treatment clinics, which included male and female inpatient and outpatient facilities; and the list goes on.

With that upbringing I make no excuses for failure. It is not an option. I know that not everyone has that type of family history, but what everyone does have is, one life to live, that only they control. Please make the best of it.

I came to Dallas from Milwaukee in 2012. After visiting my sister, who moved here a few years prior. I discovered that there was much more opportunity here in the DFW than in Milwaukee; not to mention, no more shoveling snow.

I don’t remember who or what was the influence for me wanting to be an insurance agent, but I took the state exam and aced it. My first insurance job, let’s say, was with a less reputable agency. It was all about the money. I felt like I was taking advantage of the clients I served with high cost and low value life insurance products, and that is not who I am. In my opinion, starting that way was a good lesson, which showed me what “not to be,” as a professional insurance broker.

It is not how much money you make. It is how many people you can help and educate, along the way, about the specific insurance policies that will provide them with the best financial outcome in the worst situation.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Compared to other jobs: working a lot harder for a lot less, my job has been a dream. However, I will never tell you that there has not been bigotry and hatred that has tried to derail my success.

Like all black men in this country, I have been a target of racism and discrimination. Sometimes it is as clear as a picture, and other times as subtle as a denial of your accomplishments. You can let it be either a setback, or a push forward. The choice is yours. I chose to move forward.

Despite the challenges, I have consistently maintained one of the highest producing Teams in the DFW Market, been an inductee in the Chairman’s Club for ten years strait, and continuously ranked the top Life Agent in the Texas territory.

What makes you happy? Why?

#1 My beautiful wife, Bobbie White, makes me happy. We are partners in life and in business. Without her by my side through the good, the bad, and the ugly, the journey would have been much harder. Together we make one hell of a team.

#2 Traveling the world also makes me happy. This is a great country, but there is so much more to explore. We have had the privilege to travel the world: Rome, the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, Monaco France, and many other places.

#3 Giving back is another thing that makes me happy. It is rewarding to help the less fortunate and collaborate with charitable organizations that uplift and educate through community efforts. I am happy to be able to offer the opportunity of becoming a licensed insurance agent to hundreds of individuals interested in starting their own business. I am especially proud to be a part of the Ben Barber Internship program, which gives this entrepreneurial experience and opportunity to high school students.
