Today we’d like to introduce you to Sallye Clark
Sallye, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey into counseling began during my summers at a Christian sports camp while I was in college. I found immense joy in hearing people’s stories and meeting them where they were. The summer after my junior year, as I wrestled with my future after graduation, I felt a profound nudge from the Lord to keep my heart open to applying for graduate school. That summer, I had the privilege of walking alongside young women struggling with eating disorders, which ignited a deep passion for this area of counseling.
After graduating from Texas A&M University, I chose to attend Dallas Theological Seminary, drawn by the esteemed counseling program and the opportunity to integrate my Christian worldview into my therapeutic practice. During my time at DTS, I gained invaluable clinical experience at a homeless shelter, a private practice, and by leading various pre-marital groups. My heart was particularly drawn to working with children and adolescents, and I looked forward to this focus in my post-graduate career.
Upon graduation, I dedicated myself to completing the 3,000 internship hours required to become a fully licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I divided my time equally between Eating Recovery Center (ERC) and a Christian private practice in the area. At ERC, I served as the Intensive Outpatient Therapist for the child/adolescent unit, where my passion for supporting individuals struggling with eating disorders and other severe mental health challenges truly flourished. After my time at ERC, I transitioned to a private practice, continuing to work on the child/adolescent team. To further enhance my expertise, I earned my Certified Eating Disorder Specialist (CEDS) certification, staying current with the latest evidence-based treatments.
Recently, I rejoined my former supervisor, Laura Pace, at Connections Counseling, where I remain deeply committed to supporting families and children with anxiety, depression, eating disorders, behavioral concerns, perfectionism, parenting challenges, and other mental health issues.
Additionally, I am excited to take on a new role as the certification chair for the DFW IAEDP board starting in January, furthering my commitment to this vital field.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor is a journey that demands time and dedication. My graduate program spanned three years, followed by an additional year and a half to accumulate the required 3,000 hours of supervised experience. Throughout this process, I navigated unpaid internships, juggled multiple jobs, and committed to late nights and Saturdays to meet my clinical hour requirements. Despite the challenges, my passion for this field kept me motivated, and I eagerly anticipated the day I would achieve full licensure and fully embrace the rewarding outcomes of my work. It truly requires patience and perseverance!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Connections Counseling, Laura and I believe that transformation starts with hope—hope for healing, change, and a brighter future. By helping individuals connect their life experiences, past choices, and current challenges within a safe counseling relationship, we facilitate profound personal transformation. True growth occurs when one commits to the hard work of self-discovery, acceptance, and change. We understand that deciding to embark on this journey can be daunting, and at Connections, we strive to make your experience positive, safe, and productive.
As a Licensed Professional Counselor and Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, I find great fulfillment in working with children, adolescents, and parents. Additionally, I hold certification with PCIT International, which enables me to support children ages 2 to 7 facing discipline and behavioral challenges.
Our practice is well-regarded for its evidence-based treatment modalities. I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to assist individuals feeling stuck and to empower parents with effective tools for home.
As a therapist, my role is to nurture hope and healing, firmly believing that meaningful change flourishes within compassionate and supportive relationships. I am dedicated to creating a warm, non-judgmental environment that encourages clients to explore and understand themselves. I approach therapy as a safe space where individuals can engage with their struggles openly. I know how challenging vulnerability can be on the healing journey, and it brings me immense joy to walk alongside clients as they navigate this path.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
My success is rooted in a powerful combination of hard work, empathy, and unwavering drive. I am deeply passionate about helping others, and I recognize that the support of those around me has been instrumental in my journey. I am fortunate to have a community of cheerleaders who believe in my mission and encourage me every step of the way. This blend of perseverance and compassion has profoundly shaped my path, fueling my commitment to making a difference.
