Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Del Rosario.
Hi Sara, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Sara Del Rosario and I am from Lima, Peru. I moved to the States in 2014 and before I had always worked in my career in Peru and also in Mexico. That year, I got married and I initially stayed home, but I was already thinking about businesses ideas to work from my
place because my husband and I were planning to have a baby. As a hobby, I was baking cakes for close friends and I realized that there was not really a store where you could find bakery supplies. I had to visit different retail places to obtain everything I needed. Then, I learned of places in other cities that offered them, but I noticed that those specialized stores were far away from Irving. I did my own market research and I arrived at the
conclusion that there was a big audience who, just like me, needed a closer store. Those places are still a good reference for my own business in Irving.
My husband and I started attending meetings and workshops at the Chamber of Commerce in Dallas and Fort Worth and I remember especially one of the Hispanic instructors, Veronica Sauto, a very nice lady from Mexico because she motivated me by praising the fact that my product idea was really unique, it targeted a very important segment of the population and my competition was very limited. So, we had this project since the year our daughter Olivia was born in 2015, and we created the brand Easy Cake LLC. Then, we developed a detailed plan with the help of my sister Sissy, plus consulting with Victor Nakama and Antonio Reinel. This business plan gave us more confidence so we decided the steps to follow. At the same time, Rolando Bartolo and his daughter Sasha designed our logo and advertising material.
We rented the space and with the priceless help of my husband, my sister Sissy and our friends Ronaldo and Enrique, we could finally prepare the store for the long-awaited opening. Its opening was on July 27th, 2019. It is a store specialized in cake decoration. Our main customers are those people who bake cakes, cookies, candy, chocolates, etc. to sell from home as their own business or as a hobby. We offer them a variety of products and everything they need to make their work the best of the best. We are super proud of our store, which survived the pandemic due to our customer’s loyalty. We try to bring a warm and kind environment, always delivering personalized treatment to meet their individual requirements. We do our best to cover whatever they need. Our short- and long-term plans are to continue acquiring a bigger variety of products to supply the always-growing demand.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely, the journey has not been easy. On the contrary, it has been a constant challenge since the very beginning, starting with the fact that I am not in the country where I was born, I am still learning the language and I do not have any relatives here that could provide support, With the exception of my husband, who does anything that is humanly possible to help and take care of us, but he has his full-time job. And my lovely friend Deisy, who does not deny us any effort when I need her support. So, I do absolutely everything, from the purchases, customer assistance, receiving the stock of items, displaying it properly, managing the inventory, etc. The next biggest challenge was, in my opinion, surviving the pandemic because it started when we were operating just for a few months. Finally, the current difficulty has to do with the road work that the city is doing on Irving Boulevard – where Easy Cake is located – for the last six months. This work is scheduled to be finalized in two years. We are optimistic, though, and we think that at the end it will benefit us. If we count all ups and downs, I feel the fortune has been permanently on our side because we are still rising, motivated to do things well, and with all of our loyal customers, who are not to be disappointed. We will keep doing our very best to increase our supply to be up to expectations.

Easy Cake is a store that specialized in cake decoration. Our main customers are those people who bake cakes, cookies, candy, chocolates, gelatin, treats, etc. to sell from home as their own business or as a hobby. We offer them a variety of edible color, personalized fondant cake toppers, shakers cake toppers, luster powder dust, silicon molds, cake pans, boxes, edible images, transfers, drums, cookie cutters, gum paste flowers, stencils, sprinkles, decoration classes, etc. In Easy Cake you can find everything you need to make your cakes look like masterpieces. We are a store that is slowly getting to own the market. Every day, more people are looking for us and we already have loyal customers who receive our assistance in the kindest possible way. We are a classic store, one that wants to be and stay in their customers’ hearts because here they can find good products, good prices, and fantastic customized attention.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
We know that we must increase and diversify our products frequently, and we are working very hard to do that. We are always gladly listening to our customers for all suggestions they have and we are grateful for them. The feedback we receive is essential to keep growing.
Our only objective is that all bakers, professional and amateur, find everything they need in our store in a nice environment while they receive respectful and kind treatment. This way, they will not need to travel to different places. We believe that our location is strategic for these purposes. We are close to everyone and when we are able to offer much more variety, they will have everything at this place, their place where they are always welcome to enjoy shopping and touching the products in real-time. We are hoping to receive more visitors to encourage us to be part of the history and continuous
renaissance of Irving Downtown.
