Today we’d like to introduce you to Sigifredo Flores.
Hi Sigifredo, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
My name is Sigifredo Flores, I was born and raised in Dallas, Tx. Specifically, in Oak Cliff. I bore witness to activities that made the rumors that float around today true. Despite it all, I just used it as well needed experience for the world I live in today. I grew up wanting to draw but I never caught on, so I started writing poetry. At the time I wasn’t listening to rap music or anything like that, so it was more storytelling. Eventually, I started listening to Biggie, and at around the age of 13-14, I heard what it was like to paint a picture with lyrics. That’s when I picked up the pen and started sharpening the blade. Doing shows and rocking the house is a feeling you can’t really get anywhere else. Especially when people know your song and rap it with you. An Eccentric feeling to say the least. Now I like to use it as a platform to show what I’ve been through and tell stories of how situations that I was in and how I felt. It doesn’t hit home with everyone of course, but it’s special when it does because that person doesn’t feel alone anymore.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Making music has always been fun and will always be fun. I’ve had many many setbacks but to be honest they all really made me that much stronger and made me just want to go that much harder. You think about quitting all the time lol, but I’m not in this to give up. I’m in this to create a moment for someone and hope they enjoy it as much as I do. It’s Art, it’s supposed to be enjoyed.
We’ve been impressed with Cowboys Auto Service, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Growing up I never wanted to rely on music to make money so I can always enjoy it. That always being the plan. By the tender age of 20 my parents sat me down at the dinner table one night and asked me if I wanted to help them open up a business. I gave it a thought and by the time I turned 21. We opened up what is now Cowboys Auto Service on 2764 W Clarendon Dr. Which happens to be one of the shops that are being affected by the West Oak Cliff Area Plan. My parents have been very active in the community to do what we can as small business owners. We understand that we rely on our neighbors in the community, so our prices reflect that. We specialize in Exhaust and Radiator work while keeping up with car maintenance like oil changes and the occasional used tire. We are very well-knit with our community to the point where we know when some of our elderly customers get their retirement check and let them have a tab instead of making them pay when an inconvenience in their vehicle happens to arise. We are for our people and are proud to serve them.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up a sweet kid in a tough neighborhood. I never wanted to be in a gang or anything, so I chose the comical route. I figured I’d just make everyone laugh. No one messes with the funny kid in my opinion, and I’ve been like that ever since. I played football and all that stuff in high school, but comedy has been everlasting. I’m currently a part of a comedy group called Raw Remon. Recently dropped a series on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/c/RawLemonFilm). When we initially announced it, we dropped it as a movie at the Angelika. Fortunately, it sold out within less than 5 hours of the announcement. It was a great turn out and I was glad I was able to be a part of it. It is now on YouTube loaded up as individual episodes.
