Hidden Gems: Meet Silvana Rosero of Laguna Media Group

Today we’d like to introduce you to Silvana Rosero.

Hi Silvana, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my professional career more than 20 years ago in Public Relations at ACES, the second largest airline in Colombia, South America. This experience shaped my style as a strategic, planning-oriented professional, with an emphasis on contributing to achieving strategic goals through the implementation of different forms of communication. While working there, I had the privilege of being part of the team that successfully introduced the first Airbus 320 jet fleet to Latin America.

In 1998, I moved to the United States and worked in several roles, both in the news industry and in corporate America, as a Bilingual Marketing Professional. After getting acclimated to the U.S. business environment and mastering the English language, in 2003 I was invited by Laguna Media Group’s founder, Gary Wall, to join the team as a Producer. Little did I know that I was about to become an entrepreneur one year later, when Laguna’s founding partner saw the opportunity to permanently keep me in the organization by offering me the chance to become a partner in the business. 20+ years later, I continue to run the company as its President & CEO.

Over the years, I have led my teams to complete hundreds of projects, including video productions, live events, and digital marketing/social media strategy. Our clients include corporations, public sector agencies, and non-profits. Laguna Media Group is a Certified Minority and Woman Owned Business, and we have been recognized by the Greater Dallas Hispanic Chamber of Commerce with the Quality and Excellence Groundbreaker Award, by Oncor with the Supplier Diversity Rising Star Award, and by the Dallas/Fort Worth Minority Supplier Development Council with the Excellence Award (Supplier of the Year – three times), among others. We have also been honored with a Telly Award for Cinematography. Most recently, Laguna Media Group received the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) Supplier of the Year Award and was recognized by the Women’s Business Council – Southwest as Woman Business Enterprise (WBE) of the Year. Hot off the press! We just received news that the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will be awarding me the Business Woman of the Year Award at their Hecho en Fort Worth Gala on September 20, 2025.

I served on the DFW MSDC Board of Directors and the DFW MSDC MBEIC Committee from 2016 to 2022. I am also part of the WBENC Forum and serve on the Women of Culture Committee and the Marketing Committee at the Women’s Business Council – Southwest. In 2022, I served on the Hispanic 100 (H100) Board of Directors as Immediate Past-President and, through H100, I completed a one-year term with the Dallas Regional Chamber Board in 2021. I am currently serving on the Fort Worth Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Board.

I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Corporate Communications and Journalism from the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellín, Colombia. I am a graduate of the 2015 MBE and 2022 Tuck School of Business WBE Program. In my continuous search for innovative approaches for my business, I also completed the Digital Marketing Strategy Program at Harvard and the Google–Tuck School of Business Digital Excellence Program. Additionally, I was part of the 2018 Capital One – Catapult Cohort, where I received training in Design Thinking as a framework for innovation, and I graduated from the Toyota Mentoring Program.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Very few people know that I am not a natural entrepreneur. Growing up, I didn’t have great examples of entrepreneurship in my family, and I thought that path wasn’t for me. Fast forward a few years after I came to the United States, I was offered the opportunity to join as a partner in the business I lead today. My business partner saw potential in me that I didn’t even know was there. With patience and support, I slowly found my rhythm as an entrepreneur. It only took me about seven years to get comfortable with the idea (ha!).

For 13 years, I had the privilege of enjoying mentorship, support, and lively discussions about every aspect of our business. Then, one day in 2015, while in Colombia—my native country—my business partner suddenly passed away from a fatal heart attack. One morning I was a co-owner with a trusted guide, and the next I was the sole owner with every decision resting on my shoulders. Nobody had really seen me before as the leader, and I didn’t feel ready.

What I had not realized was that I wasn’t alone. Behind me was the strength of a supportive business community, family, and allies who provided the encouragement I needed not only to stay in the business, but to thrive.

Some of the lessons I carry with me from that experience include:

Keep your affairs in order. My business partner had literally set everything up in a way that allowed me to move forward without legal battles, giving me the freedom to make necessary decisions.

The importance of personal branding. Be intentional about what you’re known for. It’s okay to pivot, reinvent, and rebrand yourself as new chapters in life unfold.

The power of family, friends, and allies. These relationships are essential for support, trust, and shared resources. Clearly identifying those circles can make all the difference when challenges arise.

Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is Saturday swimming mornings with my dad at his alma mater. Those mornings became a special routine for us—time dedicated just to being together. After finishing our swim, we would share strawberries with cream, a small tradition that always felt like the highlight of the day. On the way back home, I would fall asleep in his arms, ending the morning with the same sense of closeness with which it began.
