Hidden Gems: Meet Stacey Watkins of Your Private Collection Art Gallery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stacey Watkins.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have been a creative soul for as long as I can remember, always dreaming of opening my own art gallery. However, I often found myself pursuing conventional paths to make a living instead of following that dream. This diversion led me down some challenging roads and left me feeling quite broken. Thankfully, I had incredibly loving parents. My mother’s unwavering belief in me and her continual prayers ultimately inspired me to chase my dream of owning an art gallery and producing art.

We chose to establish our gallery in Granbury, Texas, drawn by its welcoming atmosphere and charm. I truly believe that the Lord has guided me through my life in miraculous ways, opening doors and clarifying my path, affirming that this was the right decision. Now, after nearly two decades, our gallery is thriving. A significant reason for our success is that we give all the glory to our Creator, and my art embodies that message.

The pieces I create are quite unique. I utilize materials that store energy, allowing my artworks to emit light in the dark for up to eight hours. This means that when viewed in daylight, my pieces tell one story, but as the lights go out, another narrative unfolds. Viewers can experience the art in both light and darkness. Each piece is infused with prayer, as I strive to let my hands serve as a conduit for divine inspiration. It never ceases to amaze me; I often find myself mesmerized by the beauty that emerges through my work. I recognize that I could never create anything as beautiful as what our Creator brings forth.

It brings me immense joy whenever a piece finds a new home, as it often feels as though each artwork was crafted specifically for its new owner. Hearing testimonials about why a piece holds significance for someone always astounds me, as it feels almost tailor-made for them. Since my art is so distinctive, it attracts visitors to our gallery, who often head straight to the back room where my pieces are displayed. Many request the lights be turned off for viewing, and I can’t help but smile when I hear their awe as they encounter the unexpected magic of the art.

I have collectors from all around the world, and I cherish hearing how much my pieces mean to them. For them, it’s more than just beautiful artwork; it carries deep personal significance.

Our gallery represents over 60 artists, each chosen for their uniqueness and the distinctiveness of their work. I seek out artists whose creations will never be mistaken for those of another, making each piece truly collectible. I primarily offer original art, as I believe that viewers can feel the energy of an original piece when standing before it. If a customer wishes, we can create prints of the original works, but I want them to experience the power of original art while in the gallery. We feature a variety of mediums, including glass, metal, pottery, and various painting styles. When people visit our gallery, they are not merely viewing art; they are engaging in a true experiential journey.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our gallery opened its doors in 2007, and by 2008, the economy faced some challenges. Fortunately, as a new business, we weren’t heavily affected by the downturn. Instead, we focused on growth, taking things one step at a time while creating and selling art.

I’ve found that when you pour your heart into something you’re passionate about, the hardships become more manageable. It feels as if your soul is being nourished, making losses easier to bear. Throughout this journey, my steadfast faith in the Lord has been my anchor, and He has consistently provided for me.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Your Private Collection Art Gallery ?
Our primary goal is to promote the art itself, the talented artists behind it, and to transform viewers into collectors. Our gallery thrives on building relationships—both with the artists and our customers. We enjoy learning about people’s needs and helping them find the perfect piece of art to suit their preferences.

To foster this connection, we host gallery events, such as Last Saturday Gallery Night, where we invite all of our artists to meet collectors. During these events, artists often demonstrate their techniques, allowing visitors to witness the creation of a masterpiece firsthand. This immersive experience enables viewers to truly appreciate the art and the process behind it.

Since 2011, we’ve been holding these gallery nights, with all participating galleries open from 6 to 8 PM on our historic square. Most of us serve hors d’oeuvres, wine, and entertainment, creating a vibrant atmosphere for everyone involved.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Having been in operation for nearly two decades, our gallery has had the privilege of representing some of the top artists in Texas, many of whom have become like family to us. Most of these artists stay with us long-term, allowing us to learn about their lives and witness their stories unfold through their art, which is truly enchanting.

When you purchase a piece of art, you’re not just acquiring an object; you’re buying a part of the artist themselves. This journey has also been bittersweet, as some of the artists we represent have passed away. Losing them feels like a profound loss, especially since their God-given talent is so rare.

The amazing thing about art is that, even when we lose the artist, their work continues to live on. Representing an artist who has dedicated their entire life to their God give talent is something truly special. In today’s busy world, it’s increasingly difficult to find artists who focus wholeheartedly on their passion. When we do discover those who have fully committed themselves to their God-given talents, it’s a rare gift that deserves to be celebrated.

I genuinely enjoy watching their success unfold and take great pleasure in educating others so they can become collectors.
