Hidden Gems: Meet Stephanie Brown of Ox & Pine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Brown

Hi Stephanie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started out with learning leatherworking and bookbinding as hobbies in my spare time. Over the years, I decided it would be fun to start selling online. So I opened up a shop back in 2014, and I can’t believe it’s been 10 years! It all started in my house and now we just moved into a bigger warehouse in June. I started hiring some of my first team members not too long into my journey and it’s my amazing team that has helped move Ox & Pine forward!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Business is never a smooth road! I’ve had to figure out the finer details of manufacturing and how to hire and manage people. It’s hard, but I love to continue learning and working with others.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We make handmade leather goods right here in in the USA in our Texas workshop. Since we personalize all of our leather goods, it’s fun to be a small part of someone’s story as they choose how to make it their own. We started with our journals and it’s still one of our bestsellers. There’s a lot we’ve designed and added over the years from luggage tags to belts, wallets, tote bags, dopp kits, keychains, lanyards, and more!

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I really enjoy reading and listening to podcasts to learn! One of my favorite books to date is Ready, Fire, Aim by Michael Masterson.
