Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Roehm.
Hi Stephanie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
.I have always loved fashion and being creative and after a bottle of champagne with a friend on the patio the idea of Toccoa was hatched. I started Toccoa about two years ago. It has been a great creative outlet. I started with trunk shows and advertising on social media. We know have four full time seamstresses and a showroom in Fort Worth for shows and appointments. I plan to travel to other states for trunk shows to build the name. A lot of our business if custom designs. We restyle vintage furs for those who have them in the closets. I truly enjoy creating new pieces for customers. One women said not only did we create her something beautiful out of her grandmothers coat but we were leaving a legacy, now her children will carry apiece if that coat. I continue to be amazed at the pieces we create which makes it so fun.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I started the company with a partner and decided to part ways which was a difficult obstacle. Most also see this as a seasonal business so our first summer was slow however I found ways to supplement with other pieces such as blouses, and our customs are a big push over the warm season when you wouldn’t be wearing them. Any business that is your own there are struggles you are solely responsible which is a different level of stress if you don’t push it will not succeed or grow so I believe I work harder to do just that. .
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Toccoa is a vintage fur company. We specialize in restyling vintage pieces. We can crop coats, make them smaller, change them completely to be more modern. We always say “it’s no longer you grandmas coat”. We also restyle and have inventory for those who haven’t inherited a coat. We line them with beautiful colorful silk and satin fabrics. Toccoa also has a line of our own silks and satins. We have blouses, twillys, handbags and accessories. We have a process of restyling and every thing is hand stitched. Our fabulous seamstresses do everything by hand to create truly one of a kind pieces that will last generations more.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the foodie scene in Dallas, we enjoy trying new places and we never seem to run out of places to try. We also love going back to our favorites like Uchi, Mr Max and CBD. Dislike maybe the traffic its always crazy anytime of the day however not as bad as LA so can’t truly complain.
