Hidden Gems: Meet Tasha Moore of J’adore Beauty Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tasha Moore.

Hi Tasha, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Before I begin, I would say thank for the opportunity to share my story. This is my first time sharing in written form which reminded me of so much and how far I’ve come. I’m going to try my best to keep it brief but it’s definitely not a short story. When I was 15 years old, I was hired for my first job working in a beauty salon. I was primarily a receptionist/ personal assistant. Growing up in a single-parent home with four siblings, financially we didn’t have much and couldn’t afford to pay for beauty services. I struggled with myself image as I continued to grow into my teen years. So, to get hired on and have the opportunity to learn and be able to receive professional services as a teenager was everything. Every day was different and usually included lots of laughter. The camaraderie of women coming to their appointments, sharing all they’ve had to endure leading up to that day was intriguing to me. They would leave feeling more confident, encouraged, and refreshed to do it all over again. I knew then I wanted to be in the beauty business.

As life would have it, I eventually graduated high school and entered into the military. I was a broadcast engineer working for the military’s broadcast networks in television and radio internationally. I didn’t like being in front of a camera but I didn’t mind stepping in to do makeup and hair to help the talent look their best on the air.

As my time in service progressed and having to endure deployments it’ll make you think about retirement (lol). I also continued seeking higher education and received a master’s in psychology with an understudy in theology in addition to the Bachelor of Science in Broadcast Engineering. I reached a point in life where I could afford to partake in spa services but then trying to find time to be able to do so was a challenge.

After retiring I took a break from working to spend more time with my daughter as she completed high school. I set a goal to return to school during her senior year to obtain my license to start my business. Unfortunately, days before starting school I became a victim to domestic violence. Determined to see my dream manifested, I started school with a broken leg and bruised face. Being much older than the typical cosmetology student I stood out even more. There was an abundance of love and respect shown towards me as I continued on my journey. I expressed that I didn’t do pity parties but to see me as an example that despite of the hardship or “set back” not to let anything stop you from pursuing your dreams. I graduated and went on to open J’adore Beauty Studio. It’s been one of my most prized accomplishments in my life.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the road was definitely not easy. Just these past two years alone has been the greatest challenge I’ve had in my life. May I add, we are still striving to survive this Pandemic. Going into my second year of being in business the Pandemic occurred. Unfortunately, my niece passed from cancer in February. She was laid to rest on the day my father passed on Feb. 17. I had major surgery the week following and should have been out for 2 months. I returned to work early against doctors’ orders only being shut down one week later due to the Pandemic. The Pandemic shut us all down. Every month going forward we lost more family due to covid totaling 7 in the first year. In 2021, three more deaths one due to Covid. I think the question was about challenges and obstacles (lol).

Now looking back on getting started, the first challenge I faced was me. The things I told myself, how I perceived others saw, and thought of me was the first challenge to overcome. I had to correct the things I told myself that was counterproductive to my goals.

Second financing, I didn’t know where to begin when I was younger. As I matured and started a career in the military I started saving for my future.

Third challenge is life itself. Life serves us with many challenges. I was a single-parent mother that also experienced domestic violence right at the point of pursuing my license. However, I refused to allow that stop me from pursuing my dreams. It actually made me want it more. The best revenge is always your success. So, after getting the education and license, I did my due diligence and interviewed veterans in the business.

I took the advice they offered going forward and did the work. The challenges didn’t stop me. I learned from them and continued to push forward.

The challenges are going to present themselves as you continue to grow. Being in business now for my fourth year is still fairly new to me and it started with a bang (lol). I guess what has kept me going is prayer, finding a way to smile or laugh, and seeing the results of my effort. I see the impact it has on my clients which in-turn helps me see its all worth it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about J’adore Beauty Studio?
J’adore Beauty Studio is a one-stop shop located in the heart of Irving, TX. It’s a Day Spa, Hair Salon, and Boutique all in one location. I’m mostly known for makeup artistry but some of other popular services are the Weight-Loss/Detox Program, Body Contouring, Facials/Skin Care, Lashes, Microblading, and Waxing.

We service all types of hair (natural, processed, colored, or braids).

During the Pandemic, I’ve created a selection of scented candles and fragrances. Each scent is designed to complement your desired mood.

I also sell a variety of leisurewear clothing.

What sets us apart is that we offer affordable high-end professional services. I wanted the services to be affordable for the normal everyday working person that doesn’t always get to partake in them. I also have a program called Transformation Tue, where we give back to the community to help those in need of service or show gratitude to individuals that are oftentimes overlooked. I’ve had the pleasure of working with the City of Irving’s program Irving Cares.

The past 2 years in this Pandemic has brought on a number of challenges. Mental health issues are at an all-time high. When clients are able to partake in getting a facial or makeover it makes a world of difference in their lives and overall health. We are accepting donations to help continue being able to do so. Donations can be made thru the website or contacting the business directly.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
One of my favorite childhood memories is singing. My sister and two of my cousins were my background singers and I was the lead of course.
