Today we’d like to introduce you to Vaughn Davis.
Hi Vaughn, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My name is Vaughn Davis
I started My professional training business Sinful Speed Athletics, in 2016, I began after I got out of the military and didn’t quite know what direction to go in with my life. I started training with a youth track team in Las Vegas due to the fact I have been in sports since I was 6 years old. I felt like an ok fit was not getting paid at this time, so I fell into homelessness. After a full year of coaches and parents seeing the results I produced, I was asked to become the Head sprint coach at Western High School in Las Vegas. Coaches are not paid till the conclusion of the season, so I was coaching the youth team while coaching the school, so I had to figure out a way to get some kind of income in if at least for gas. I had begun Sellin plasma and worked for an air balloon company EARLY in the morning, so I would sell plasma and head to practices for the day and sometimes forgo actually eating that day. By the end of my first season as an official head sprint coach, We produced Western’s first 100-meter state champion since 2009 his name is Kory Powell went from a 11.6 ranked 40th in the state to running 10.9 that year.
The following year after being underappreciated by the youth track team that I was currently helping, we decided to part ways, and my business Sinful Speed Athletics, was born. I was offered the Role of Head sprint coach at Las Vegas High School the following year, where I was balancing training athletes privately, coaching the school, and also working at Walmart. We had a terrific year, beating school records in the 400 and 4×2 and winning state in the 4×2 with Miles Davis (BYU Current Running back), Devyn Perkins (Utah Tech Current cornerback), Victory David (WR Current western Colorado), and Cody Summer.
Unfortunately, the following year, Corona happened and brought all sports to a halt, but due to the fact nobody knew when it would resume, I remained training any and every athlete that wanted to most for free or extremely discounted rates if they were in their senior year because I didn’t see it as fair to take some of their only chances away. Once Corona restrictions let up, all the athletes who had put the time and work in began seeing that recruiters were back to normal and were glad they kept working; some include Michael Jackson (WR currently USC), Darrien Stewart (Safety Currently Utah University), and Isaiah Barbee (RB recruited by Mayville State) just to name a few. I stepped away from training high school on the influx of athletes from all over the Valley that seen what our training was producing, so I decided to stick with personal training.
Late 2021, I was reached out to by the Head Coach of the Track And Field team at Bishop Gorman High School and was offered the position of the Head Sprint Coach and started a rebuilding process for the program the first year we managed to break the 200 meter record now held by Myryah Scott and 4×1 record now held by Myryah Scott, Cameron Lewis, Amari hicks, Leila Rett and also took them to state, The following year we had some amazing athletes that went above and beyond some notable names are Derek Meadows (2023 Gatorade Track athlete of the year) and Siddhant Kumar (2023 Nike Nationals 2x all American) and also taking our boys 4×2 and boys and girls 4×4 to state 4×4 winning state in the boys 4×4 and breaking the school record in the girls 4×4 with Grace yager, Tiffany Lavoie, Sophia Kellogg and Teliyah Judith Mcinnis (WR currently Ottawa University). Due to the inflation that Las Vegas has experienced, I was forced to make a hard decision to leave Vegas to try and experience something new and see where my life and business took me I have officially relocated to Dallas Texas
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has never been a smooth road due to people thinking I couldn’t do it because of my age, not knowing the amount of work I put into it or thinking that the way I did it was wrong because it was different than the old school way of training. along with the Politics that follow most of it.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sinful Speed Athletics?
My business is tailored to not only unlock the physical in these athletes that they may not know they possess but to rewire their mental as well without the mind, there is no progression. I also help athletes of all sports obtain scholarships to help mitigate cost of college, hopefully taking it entirely away.
Training-wise, I focus more on Speed Strength and Conditioning as they correlate to every single sport
What sets me apart from others is every athlete is like a member of my family and not just a number how some organization and trainers see them as. I believe that there is an avenue for every athlete just how much work are you willing to put in
I’m most proud of the fact that every athlete that has come through the program has gone to college.
I want everyone to know that Sinful Speed Athletics was creating to grow and nurture athletes and get them ready for their next level in life (even if it’s not sports).
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see the business and name being a household name and being used by some of the biggest names there are.
