When I landed in the US from Venezuela, I had this big dream of becoming a successful business owner, hoping to make a positive dent in as many lives as I could. I started with just $20 in my pocket, but I was carrying a mountain of ambition. I took the corporate route initially, and before I knew it, I was one of the top sales reps around the globe. This stint not only helped me save up some money to kickstart my real estate investment journey but also gave me a sneak peek into how big corporations in the US tick.
As I dipped my toes into investing, it hit me that there was this huge gap in the market for a reliable, responsible, and design-savvy construction firm. That’s when I rallied my dream team—my sister Alejandra from CH Interior Design Studio, my partner in crime and business, Daniela Mendoza, and of course, yours truly. We put our heads together to cook up a new kind of service that we believed could shake things up in the Dallas market.
Fast forward five years, and here we are, running one of the fastest-growing companies in Texas and making waves across the US. It’s been a wild ride from having a mere $20 to my name to being at the helm of a booming business, and I couldn’t be more stoked about what we’ve achieved together.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely, navigating through the business world, especially in a new country, is no cakewalk. The journey from where I started to where I am now has been filled with its fair share of bumps and curves. Adapting to a new culture, wrapping my head around a different way of thinking, and getting a grip on the distinct set of rules were some of the initial hurdles I faced.
Growing a business from the ground up is a tough nut to crack. It’s like riding a rollercoaster with its highs and lows, and sometimes it hits you with a loop you didn’t see coming. There were days when things looked a bit bleak, but what kept me going was the vision I had and the people I surrounded myself with.
The game-changer for me was assembling the right team and building a solid network. Having a squad of dedicated, like-minded individuals made all the difference. We leaned on each other during the tough times, celebrated the wins together, and kept learning and evolving along the way. My network also played a crucial role—it was like having a safety net of mentors, industry peers, and friends who I could turn to for advice, insights, or a fresh perspective.
The camaraderie, the shared vision, and the relentless drive to keep pushing forward, no matter the hurdles, have been the cornerstone of overcoming challenges.
