We’re looking forward to introducing you to Holly Gaske. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Holly, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
The Gaske Cat Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization improving the lives of cats. We are proud to support a diverse range of cat welfare organizations throughout Texas and the United States. We provide funding for the shelters, rescues, community groups, and initiatives that need it most. We continually strive to identify the most pressing needs within the feline welfare community and find innovative ways to support them. 100% of all donations go toward our mission and directly impact a cat’s life for the better.
We are currently fundraising for the most overlooked adoptable cats. Cats with unique medical needs and senior cats often make the best companion animals. Unfortunately, they can also utilize a large part of animal shelters already tight budgetary needs. With this campaign, donations will help support spaces where they can find their forever homes.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
My parents have shaped not only how I see myself, but also the world around me. They always treated animals with kindness and compassion. Their empathy has instilled the values that I carry with me today.
When you were sad or scared as a child, what helped?
In times of sadness, I always found comfort in the unconditional love our family pets bestowed upon us.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That we can rely on compassion itself. The unfortunate truth is that making a difference in an animal’s life requires funds. Hopefully, one day the world will be different, but until then, we will continue to fundraise and fight for them.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What pain do you resist facing directly?
There is an inherent emotional toll from working in animal welfare. While the pain we carry can be heartbreaking, it also fuels us. We would rather suffer a moment of discomfort to protect an animal from being abused, killed, or neglected. It’s our honor to carry that pain for them.
