Hi Debra, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
The beginning was a bit rocky for CRAVE Medical Spa, at the inception of my dream of opening a med spa, I had spent a great deal of time ministering to women in our family law office I directed. Also, I had created a non-profit boutique to give as much as I could to women and sometimes men that were struggling with their self-esteem or self-worth, so with a diversified background in consulting and developing start-up businesses, I had the experience and tenacity to build another business to help people feel their best! The spa was originally started as an injectable business, me and one injector, in a small room, but with a dream, right?
After a lot of sweat equity, I was ready to start the build-out of a location in the same building as our family law firm and we worked diligently to get opened. CRAVE Medical Spa was being finished out and it was so exciting, right up to my first brain surgery, which quickly turned into brain surgery number two, with third brain surgery on the schedule, we were still pushing through- we forged ahead and were able to accomplish a lot (from the hospital sometimes) with the help of some extremely loyal friends, family and employees. We finally opened our primary location in January 2017, we had persevered and the result was a medspa designed where women and men could enhance their natural beauty in a safe and relaxed environment with specialized treatments developed by our medical director Kelly D. Grimes, DO. Since opening, we’ve worked diligently to distinguish and differentiate ourselves in our field while maintaining our commitment to the conscientious and complete care of the whole person.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Within the first year of starting CRAVE Medical Spa, I was violently assaulted, which led to a routine scan leading to the discovery of a benign tumor that was growing. I had brain surgery to remove the tumor. That should have been the end, but unfortunately, I developed a life-threatening infection which caused a piece of my skull to be removed and I was put on ten weeks of IV antibiotics to await a third surgery to close my skull with a titanium plate. The normal obstacles one must overcome to open a business seemed insignificant in the big picture, I believe that is at the foundation of our incredible success!
We’ve been impressed with CRAVE Medical Spa, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We offer a warm and friendly environment designed to make a patient feel at home. We offer a large variety of cosmetic injectables, such as Botox, Dysport and Xeomin, as well as dermal fillers, including Juvederm and Restylane. This Med Spa was created from a heartfelt desire to change people’s lives by offering them a way to overcome the things in their appearance that tend to impede us from facing the bigger challenges in life. We pride ourselves in enhancing one’s natural beauty or concentrating on what the patient desires to improve in their appearance. We want to help people who’s lack of self-esteem has robbed them of their confidence and held them hostage, from chasing their dreams. Med Spa’s are typically known for botox and lip fillers, and while we want to be known for those as it’s an important part of our business, we also want to be known for our approach to educating our patients and treating them with respect and appreciation they deserve.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The only goal I operate from is the outcome. The way a person feels and how they feel about their appearance after receiving treatments.
