Inspiring Conversations with Jayson Douglas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayson Douglas.

Hi Jayson, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember, I knew my life’s purpose was to be a servant for others. As a child, I watched as my immigrant parents navigated their own struggles with unfortunate circumstances; however, nevertheless, they persisted in being of services to others, always striving to help someone even less fortunate then themselves. I think it was the same principle, “each one, reach one,” that stuck with me. Even until this very day, I am reminded to persist despite obstacles placed within my path. I think that is why in my current role, I strive to eliminate gaps in equity for educators and organizational leaders.

I got my start shortly after completing my undergraduate experience at Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU). It was B-CU that provide me with a second chance and supported my growth and success as a student. I was afforded the opportunity to study under some of the finest industry-leading professionals and leave a legacy for others to follow. Shortly after college, I enrolled at the University of Central Florida to pursue a master’s degree in criminal justice and began some consulting work part-time. I began becoming more active within my community, serving on local nonprofit boards and working with local educators to adopt more inclusive teaching pedagogies. From there on, it just clicked. This work is something that I truly just fell into. I don’t know if I can say that I always aspired to having my own consulting firm. But I love what I do. It wakes me up everyday!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I can’t imagine the start of any new business not having tiny hiccups along the way. When creating a new business, there are sometimes tiny occurrences that are beyond your control. That is why I started my consulting firm. Often, aspiring entrepreneurs don’t realize that you can plan for those unintended impediments. It’s called “strategy.” As a chief strategist and lead consultant, I ensure that my clients are well prepared for each and every event from formation to beyond. It is important to have a master plan that supports the development and implementation of your new business with a well-formulated action for those unforeseeable events. Having a strategy early-on will allow you the opportunity to provide recourse for your business to navigate around something that could be potentially harmful.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
