Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As far as my hair business, I started “Wigs By Aaliyah” when I was 20 years old. Exactly 2 years ago from now. I didn’t know where to start, but I did know that I wanted to launch a business. I started out just by making wigs. Watching other professionals, helped me learn and get better at my craft. After about 6 months into my business, I made an announcement January 1, 2021 that I would be having my own hair that I would sale as well. So far everything is going very well with my business. Of course, there will be some moments where you will get no customers, but then there will also be moments where you are booked and busy. Being an entrepreneur can be very difficult, but only the strong can survive. I had moments where I wanted to quit, but I can’t let go of something that I love to do. My business is now reaching large platforms. On September 16, “Wigs By Aaliyah” will be hosted at the Build Black Virtual 2022. I have also picked up YouTube “AaliyahRayshan “. I started YouTube March 2022 and I have gain over 5.5k in views on just one video. I just received my first sponsorship promo by a huge company that I can’t say at the moment. I am so proud of myself and how far I came with my hair business and my YouTube.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being a business owner has not been easy. There would be times where I was booked and busy, and then there would be times where I would get not even 1 sale. There was also a time where a customer tried to scam me out of some hair. Being an entrepreneur, you are going to see everything. You will come in contact with people who are nice, people who would try to take advantage of you, people who would try to get away with things. The most important thing is to never get out of character. Pray about it and keep it moving.
As you know, we’re big fans of Wigs By Aaliyah / AaliyahRayshan. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a 22-year-old wig specialist and YouTuber. I specialize in wigs and I am known as a content creator. What sets me apart from others is that my customer service is everything. I get so many compliments of how patient I am with my customers and clients. When having a business, the most important thing is how you talk to others. Nobody is going to support you if you are being rude or not replying to them when they have questions. The thing that I am most proud of when it comes to my business is how much I am growing and the new audience that I am reaching out to. I always wanted to make wigs for women who are battling cancer. Within this year, I was able to make that happen. I made a wig for my first cancer warrior. She loved it so much. It meant so much to me to know that she was so happy to receive her wig. That is really what my business is all about. Making women feel beautiful. As far as my YouTube, I am so proud that I was able to secure my first sponsorship after 5 months of starting my channel. I want my readers to know that I offer top-quality service wigs. I have the best customer service that I would make you want to become a loyal customer. My prices are very reasonable and I have sales all the time.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
In the next 5-10 years, I see my hair business reaching celebrities and also more cancer warriors. I want to have a whole team who would help me through this process and with getting orders to my customers. I see my YouTube reaching millions of subscribers and views.
