Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrienne Leigh.
Hi Adrienne, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
At first, becoming a dermatologist was my big dream because I wanted to make people’s skin problems disappear. But, as a high schooler, the idea of spending another ten years in school was a commitment I wasn’t ready to make. Instead, I chose to get a marketing degree focused on the beauty industry. I was going to help people with their skin by working in the business side of the industry.
Landing a job in Los Angeles as a Digital Marketing Coordinator at a skincare startup seemed like a dream come true, but it turned out to be less exciting than I thought. I missed interacting with people directly and making a real difference in their lives. This realization led me to beauty school, where I stumbled upon my unexpected passion—waxing! It was not just about the wax; it was the laughter, the stories, and the connections I made with clients that truly lit up my day.
However, my first job experience in the industry showed me the not-so-pretty side of the beauty world. It felt impersonal and cold, not at all what I envisioned. That’s when I decided to open The Bush Waxing Boutique, my very own venture that would mix the professionalism of a spa with the heart and humor of visiting with a close friend.
The Bush Waxing Boutique is more than just a place to get waxed. It’s where everyone can feel at home, embraced for who they are, and leave feeling not just great about their skin but also about themselves. We’re all about top-notch service, using the best products, and ensuring every visit is filled with smiles and laughter. Here, it’s about celebrating your beauty and enjoying the journey.
Our mission is to make every person who walks through our doors feel valued, confident, and a part of something special. The Bush isn’t just a boutique; it’s a community where we lift each other up and take pride in our self-care rituals.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
If it were easy, everyone would do it. Entrepreneurship has been the personal development journey I didn’t know I needed or wanted. I truly believe that when we are given the opportunity to do something, there is a deeper meaning & ultimately, an understanding that we are capable of achieving our wildest dreams, no matter the struggle.
Some struggles I have faced in business include: scaling, hiring, firing, inadequate funding, slow seasons, and the economy. Honestly, anything can be viewed as a struggle, but as an entrepreneur, it’s all about looking past the struggle, learning the lesson, and implementing new systems that will hopefully help your business flourish in the long run.
The entire journey of entrepreneurship is all about learning to get through the struggles. For me, hiring mentors, coaches, and therapists, as well as joining networking groups, attending retreats & investing in my knowledge, has been what has helped me get through the struggles a little easier.
Every entrepreneur goes through struggles; by hiring a coach or mentor, you are fast-tracking your way through because a good coach has already lived through your struggle. They will be able to offer you advice; they’ll have tips, tricks, what to do & what not to do for whatever struggle you may face.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our mission at The Bush is to create a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where clients feel confident and cared for. Our highly skilled and trained professionals use the latest techniques and highest-quality products to ensure the best results for our clients. We are committed to promoting self-care and self-love by helping our clients feel their best inside and out. At Bush Waxing Boutique, we believe that every person deserves to feel beautiful, and we are dedicated to making that a reality for each and every client who walks through the doors of their new waxing home.
What do you think about happiness?
One of my personal core values is: Helping Others.
Every night, when I lay my head on my pillow, I like to think back on my day & recognize how I helped someone. Whether that be at The Bush Waxing Boutique, helping a client with their confidence and self-worth. Maybe I shared a piece of business advice that helped a struggling entrepreneur. Or maybe I gave out a compliment that put a smile on someone’s face and helped turn their day around. At the end of every day, if I help another person, I can go to sleep happy.
Helping others has a deeper meaning to me than just making one person’s day better. I truly believe in the ripple effect. If someone leaves a conversation feeling inspired by me, maybe they will go home and inspire their child, then that child will inspire their teacher the next day, and so on. You never know how much of a difference you can make in another’s life & personally; I’d like to make a difference for the better.
Helping others brings me so much joy & is literally at the root of everything that I do.
