Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Amber Brown.
Hi Dr. Brown, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers?
Hi! I’m Dr. Amber a pelvic health physical therapist, birth doula, yoga teacher, and contributing faculty member in graduate programs by day and money mentor by night. I started my practice, Root Physical Therapy,no comma and Wellness, in 2018 after feeling the burnout from working at a busy facility and did not want to lose my passion for what I was doing. I had worked with maternal care in pregnancy and postpartum since 2013 and I knew how special the population was and the need for support was important. Now I have a low volume clinic to allow for my energy management, something I coach my clients on,add comma while providing high-quality service.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The hardest part about starting my own practice was the thought of fully supporting myself outside of an established corporation and finding balance. I have many passions and did not want to burn myself out. With all I do, I remain less than 40 hours a week. That’s how I am able to still serve my clients with attention they deserve. The community is amazing and between family, friends, colleagues, and clients I built up my confidence as a business owner. My skills as a clinician were there, but entrepreneurship was not on my original “5- or 10-year plan.” But I’m loving every step of the journey.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My practice provides support for everyone with a pelvis (so the plan of pregnancy is not required) but also full support from preconception through pregnancy and beyond. I often tell people if they have concerns with the 7 “P’s” (pee, poo, pain, preconception, pregnancy, postpartum, perimenopause) then come see me. The treatment provided is holistic and I teach my clients how to help their healing processes. We also have birth prep and postpartum recovery programs to help with smoother and beautiful birth experiences and efficient and empowered postpartum recovery journeys.
What makes you happy?
Sleep, Sweets, and Spending time with loved ones. I have a very healthy relationship with my bed and love when I wake up refreshed. I’m naturally a night owl and throw mini temper tantrums when my alarm goes off in the morning, but don’t need coffee or anything to get my energy going. I love love love sweets, especially carbs (cookies, pies, and cobblers are the best. I enjoy baking them as well). Time with family, friends, and Sorors of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc is always rewarding and I’m thankful for my village.
