Inspiring Conversations with Andrea Gibson of Balayage Bar & Boutique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Gibson.

Andrea Gibson

Hi Andrea, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started my salon in McKinney Square in 2018. I originally went to Hair school at Toni & Guy hairdressing academy in 2010 after a year’s spent working in real estate. I then worked at a couple of salons, and once I was busy enough, I decided to branch out and open my own salon suite. After getting to full capacity there, I decided to open a salon in downtown Frisco Square. I owned and operated this salon for several years and then sold it when I became pregnant with my second child. After about a year, I really missed owning a salon and decided to open up Balayage Bar & Boutique in Downtown McKinney. The salon has been amazing!

We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of the challenges along the way are not having much financial support and advice or help for my family in addition to being a single mom in the beginning. While owning the salons some of my struggles include learning to be a manager dealing with different personalities can be very taxing emotionally. Also learning about social media and how to make sure everyone is happy. It can definitely be a balancing act when you are trying to make your customers happy but also make sure that your staff is happy and well taken care of in the process.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We offer precision haircuts, custom hair extensions, and a highlighting technique that provides our customers with a long-lasting and low-maintenance result. We continually train and stay current on all techniques. We were named neighborhood favorite by Nextdoor for 21,22 and 23. We were voted best salon by Living Magazine for 22 and 23. We were also recently nominated as a finalist for the Better Business Bureau of North Texas Torch Award for Ethics.

What makes you happy?
What truly makes me happy is spending time with my family and getting to enjoy my hobbies that include skiing, traveling, real estate, and working out. Professionally, I truly enjoy making my customers look and feel beautiful and being part of a lot of special moments in their lives. I love the wealth of information I am available to have by knowing so many customers. I also have a true passion for a teaching newer hairstylist how to make this a career and not a job as many struggle to make this career work. I truly enjoy teaching them how to do it with success, so they are able to have the freedom we all hope to achieve…
