Inspiring Conversations with Brandon Scribner of ScribnerDFW

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Scribner.

Hi Brandon, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Definitely! I am a first generation American, born and raised in Garland, Texas. My parents spilt up when I was one and I raised by my mother and her side of the family. Fun fact, English was my third language. My family is of Chinese and Vietnamese origin so I learned how to speak both languages at a very young age. I played sports throughout my life up until junior year when I tore my ACL. Around this time, the NFL was under major pressure regarding CTE and concussion damages. With my passion still burning for football, I decided to major in Neuroscience.

I attended the University of Texas at Dallas and took the pre-med route. I had an epiphany during my junior year while taking organic chemistry II that maybe the doctor life wasn’t for me. Instead of becoming a doctor, I had a thought, why not sell to the doctors? After I graduated with my bachelors in Neuroscience, I accepted a role as a medical sales rep. I learned a lot about the health care industry and met great colleagues/health care professionals along the way.

My medical sales career lasted 3 years before I decided to follow a deep interest of mine, real estate. I felt like I could get the same satisfaction of helping others as I did in health care but by helping others achieve their life long goals of becoming a homeowner. This was also an opportunity to work on myself and my dreams. It’s been a great experience so far and I cannot wait to see what the future has in store!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Oh definitely not at all but there’s beauty in the breakdown. You can only grow under pressure and those struggles helped shaped the man I am today.

2020 was a rough year to say the least but it was also one of the best years of my life. We found out in January that my grandmother’s cancer had come back and that hurt because we saw how hard she fought during her first battle. Fast forward to March 9th, 2020, my partner and I welcomed our beautiful baby girl to this world. Four days later, Covid-19 was declared a national emergency in the US. Then a week later, my great grandmother passed away alone in her nursing home. Talk about a wild timeline right?

The virus decimated populations in the nursing homes I worked with and there was nothing I could do. There were supply chain constraints everywhere and my clients were working hard, day and night to take of their residents and protect them with the very little they had.

It was definitely a dark time in my life. Here I was, a new father trying to raise my newborn during these scary, unknown times while taking care of my clients who were directly affected by the new virus but also dealing with the stress from my personal life. But tough times don’t last, only tough people do. I emerged from these experiences a stronger man of faith and with a new found appreciation of life. I decided to take a big bet on myself in March 2021 and pursued a career in real estate and here I am today! Life is too short to not take risks and to be afraid of the unknown.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I help people find a place to call home for a living. I also help people sell their home or find their temporary home. I’m a Realtor with eXp Realty! I think what sets me apart from my peers is that I genuinely like to fun with everything I do. I have a strong passion for life and try to see the glass half full. My slogan is “Scribby Snacks” which is a play off my last name. A Scribby Snack can either be an apartment lease/residential lease or your first, second, or even third home! I want to the readers to know that when you decide to work with me, we work as a team. My goal is to make your real estate adventure a smooth and enjoyable experience. So what are you waiting for? Treat yourself to some #ScribbySnacks!

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I believe the best things in life form organically. You can’t just search for a friendship or a relationship and expect to find it. Otherwise it wouldn’t be a genuine connection. I believe a mentorship is a two way street. There has to be a level of trust and respect for one another. Ultimately that will lead to a lifelong lasting relationship that goes beyond the mentorship.

I highly recommend networking and getting to know people outside your general sphere of influence. Its fun and you never know who you might just meet. One of my favorite quotes by Zig Ziglar is “You can have everything in life you want, if you will just help other people get what they want.”

Which leads to my another favorite quote of mine “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” Everyone has a goal or vision that they are working towards. In that same sense, everyone has something valuable they bring to the table, regardless of background or education. If I can help you achieve your dream, we progress together as a community.
