Today we’d like to introduce you to Bria Maiden.
Hi Bria, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I’m Bria Maiden—a passionate force in the world of dance and arts! As a choreographer, curator, art educator, and Mental Health First Aid certified practitioner, I live for inspiring and empowering others through creative expression. I’m also the proud founder of SupaFly, a vibrant, community-driven space where dance and various art forms collide to celebrate individuality, creativity, and joy.
Born and raised in Desoto, Texas, I fell in love with dance practically as soon as I could walk. My foundation was built at Peace Love Hip Hop in Charleston, SC, an incredible studio that sparked my lifelong love for hip hop. From there, my journey took me across the country with the Showstopper Dance Convention, where I had the thrill of teaching year-round alongside some of the most iconic choreographers in the industry.
During my undergrad at North Carolina A&T State University, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication and Journalism and immersed myself in the world of media. Working with Warner Music and as a radio personality, I interviewed high-profile celebrities and dove into the music scene, gaining invaluable industry insight. I also left my mark on Greensboro’s local radio and collaborated with the Office of Leadership and Civic Engagement to build an after-school program for students from low-income backgrounds. Wherever I went, I found myself teaching, creating, and inspiring!
Now based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, I’m thrilled to be bringing my love for dance and community engagement to recreation centers, community hubs, and nonprofits all around the city. Currently, I’m pursuing a Master’s in Art Education at the University of North Texas to deepen my mission of blending art and education.
With hip hop dance classes around the DFW and our SupaFly dance studio opening soon, I can’t wait to keep building this incredible community of dancers, creators, and SupaFly Hue-man Beings. The best is yet to come!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey hasn’t exactly been smooth sailing. Although I’m no stranger to the Dallas area, having recently moved back after being away since 2010, SupaFly is still new to many people here. Rebuilding my name and establishing a fresh presence in the community has been one of the biggest challenges. Finding partnerships and connecting with organizations that recognize the transformative power of hip hop dance has also been a journey in itself.
In addition, I’m now pursuing a Master’s in Art Education to deepen my expertise and broaden my impact, equipping myself with new tools and insights to elevate SupaFly and the creative community here in Dallas.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about SupaFly Studio?
At SUPAFLY, being “fly” means tapping into the confidence that comes from embracing who you truly are and unleashing your unique creativity. We’re more than just a dance and arts organization—we’re a movement that believes in the power of self-expression, empowerment, and self-discovery through art. Our mission is to help people unlock their authentic potential, so they can reflect their true selves boldly and unapologetically.
We specialize in hip hop dance instruction, and our classes are where rhythm meets soul and passion meets purpose. But SUPAFLY goes beyond technique; here, we cultivate a culture of self-love and creative freedom, where students are encouraged to own their unique flair and let their talents shine. We’re proud to offer a place where art isn’t just an activity but a pathway to deeper connection with self and community.
What truly sets us apart is our commitment to inclusivity and positivity—we’re building a family that supports each other, grows together, and celebrates every individual’s journey. So, if you’re ready to discover what it means to be “fly”—to find strength, creativity, and purpose in every move—SUPAFLY is here for you.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice? Network genuinely, and take the time to really sit down with your business vision. Get clear on the details of what you want to bring into the world—understand the purpose behind it, the value it offers, and who it will impact. I’m just starting out myself, but I truly believe that being prepared in all areas is key. When you’ve done the groundwork, you’re ready to seize any opportunity that comes your way.
