Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Hines
Hi Brittany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born charismatic. Always bossing my siblings and friends around running the program of play. Never really made a good employee. Always had the desire to create my own destiny. Entrepreneurship was in me from the beginning and was fostered by my favorite teacher in high school, Ms. Rhynes at Kimball who told me I was a teacher. I didn’t believe her then since I knew there were no teachers making the kind of money I saw in my future. A multimillionaire in my mind, even then. Fast forward to now, I’m in full swing of growing my own Events and Marketing firm with a niche for empowering small minority owned businesses and curating events that stimulate the economic development of our underserved communities. I didn’t grow up around entrepreneurs, my parents, aunts, uncles they are all 9-5ers. So in every way my Mindset was different from the people closest to me. What got me here is a road paved with unlearning, reconditioning, healing, releasing limiting beliefs, developing #emReg (Emotional Regulation) skills and building a new path to a place I’d never seen anyone go to before.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The psychological effects of poverty has to be the biggest factor I’ve faced. Not as much from myself, but from the people I’ve hoped to impact the most. There is a lot of fear in my community regarding taking chances or even trusting one another. Trust being the biggest barrier to the success of my mission. I take responsibility for my own ignorance about financial processes that have led to my challenges in funding deterring my growth as an entrepreneur.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Every small business begins as a seed in the mind of the entrepreneur. It requires patience through the entire process, but under the right conditions, can grow into a flower, fruit, or vegetable that will yield a harvest or return the beauty of its blossoms in the correct season. I am the Gardener of Small Businesses, but most of my friends call me Purse. Yes pronounced like the handbag. And BHAG is pronounced the same as Bag. My business name came from a phrase I read somewhere, “BIG HAIRY AUDACIOUS GOAL”. My mind locked onto that phrase and I’ve built on it ever since. My most true values are integrity and gratitude. So the tagline is “Be Honest And Grateful”; a phrase of my creation that guides my daily actions. The mission of BIG BHAG VIBES is to empower entrepreneurs with a platform full of resources and knowledge to build sustainable businesses freeing them from their 9-5. The BEE Agenda is our program that provides daily support through classes, seminars, and the MLK Daily Market. The goal of the market is to stimulate the economy in the southern Dallas sector and provide consistent income for business owners allowing them a space to reach customers on a consistent, direct basis. The big picture is businesses outgrowing the market but leaving with the tools to open a storefront, build an app, or sell their business to investors and retire. Whatever the vision, the BEE Agenda with help create the foundation with access to funding, content creation and subscriptions that help entrepreneurs focus on creating quality products, operations, and processes. We help relieve the pressure that most entrepreneurs face of doing it ALL by providing options for them to delegate the tasks that are required outside of the product creation. We also focus on healing the hood of a lack and poverty based mindset by educating our people about nutrition, providing mental health support and a daily job fair. The whole neighborhood is on the Agenda as we recognize that environment plays a big role in mindset. We will be buying and renovating commercial and residential properties to help house and board our unhoused neighbors getting them off the streets and into the appropriate help or treatment programs. Another major focus is helping homeowners make repairs to get their homes to more livable conditions and improve their overall quality of life with various classes and seminars right in the heart of South Dallas.(or virtually) With our platform SolarEducation.org we will assist homeowners with information about how to go solar, and with our partner, help get them build the credit to get qualified for home improvement loans and other equity building tools. We partner with several companies that help with low-no upfront cost home repairs, energy efficiency upgrades and savings. It’s all about investing in our own neighborhoods instead of being a victim of gentrification. Economic stimulation through programs to start, fund and grow small minority owned businesses in our neighborhoods will be the turning point from poverty to prosperity.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Discernment. That’s my main advice regarding seeking the council of others. The people that are meant to teach you will show up when you are aligned with your purpose, so get aligned. More time should be focused on your inner self since you already have what it takes to succeed inside. Any mentor that you find will simply be reinforcing, encouraging and reminding you of what you know. Seek accountability partners. When you have integrity and make a commitment to someone you respect you are more likely to follow through. Most of my mentors are the authors of the books I read, so in all of your searching for knowledge, READ.
