Inspiring Conversations with Danica Carson of Hack Decks®

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danica Carson

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in a Southern California beach city and went to UC Berkeley. I never expected that one day, I would be calling DFW home, but I am so grateful that my path brought me here. As a transplant, I have such an appreciation for Dallas and Fort Worth. This is where I am raising my family, and I love it here. Because California and Texas are such different places, I feel like I have a fresh set of eyes and can appreciate little things that people who grow up here may not realize, like how DFW is one of the most family-oriented places I’ve ever been.

Because I’m from California, one of the biggest surprises was the size and quantity of things people accumulate here. In California, homes are much smaller because the land is so expensive. People regularly clean out their homes because, frankly, they have to. There is no room for anything you don’t love or need. But, here, in DFW, you don’t have to do that because people have much more space. While more room is wonderful, it is also dangerous because you can become completely overwhelmed by clutter. If space isn’t forcing people to get rid of things, they often don’t feel the need to do so. That was a big part of how l ended up a professional organizer and, ultimately, what led me to create the Declutter Deck, the original deck for Hack Decks®.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
People often think that owning your own business is easier than working for someone else, but the reality is that it’s a hundred times harder. When you start a business, you have to be in charge of every aspect of your business. You are now the department head of marketing, advertising, production, design, legal, inventory, web design… the list goes on. You’re also now the only employee. It’s a ton of work, and it’s very challenging, but it is so worth it.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Hack Decks® is a unique line of “lifehacks in a box” designed to eliminate the stress and struggle of common pain points. Each deck is based on themes such as date night, getting organized, living on your own for the first time, and more. All you have to do is pull a card, and the deck tells you what to do. No more overthinking, endless scrolling, or decision paralysis. No more having to do everything the hard way. The deck frees up your brain so you can be productive and spend more time enjoying your life.

Date Deck® and Declutter Deck® are our most popular decks.

Date Deck® is such a fun tool for couples to reconnect and make routine dates a thing of the past. The deck provides 52 fun and spontaneous date ideas that you pick at random to decide what you’ll be doing. Getting out of your routine actually improves your mood and creates new neuropathways in your brain.

Declutter Deck® is an incredible tool for people who need to declutter and get organized. One of the biggest reasons people can’t declutter or organize on their own is because they get overwhelmed by the scope of the task and don’t know where to start. Declutter Deck® solves that problem by giving you small organizing prompts that can be completed in thirty minutes to an hour. Each prompt is a small piece of the larger puzzle. Working your way through the deck gets your home in order without all the stress.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Trends are always changing, but people stay relatively the same. Deep down, everybody wants the same thing, less stress and more time for loved ones and fun. Hack Decks® strives to eliminate that stress so you can enjoy your life more. As we say, Delegate to the Deck® so you can focus on the people and things you love.
